I went through these same "portability" issues with mine when I got it. after much thought and inner turmoil, I decided to leave the 700P as-is. If I need something similar but more portable, I would want both a shorter barrel and a different stock. I, personally, would end up with an SPS Tactical and the Bell/Carlson M40 stock.

Tanner, if you are going to chop the barrel have you considered an HS LTR stock, they are fairly trim for a heavy contour barrel and HS's prairie grass camo looks good.

You can buy them direct from HS Precision, I can't remember the model number, it may say in the model description on their website, if not just give them a call. The LTR's are nice IMO.

JFC maybe if H.S's entire website wasn't out of stock it'd be easier to see! Wow!

I don't think the pic is of the 086, pics have a palm swell, in the description at the bottom it says the 086 doesn't have a palm swell and is suited for short barrels. I've handled an LTR before and it's definently not shaped like the PSS and not near as bulky. I would buy one my dam self if they came in long action.

Ahh, I see. That sounds like a pretty badass little stock. Might have to give that a shot.

Another vote for the LTR handle. If you look hard enough, they can be found online very reasonably. Of course, you can always buy one new from HS.
I have an SPS Tactical stuffed into one...kind of a "faux-LTR". I LOVE the way it handles. Handy from field positions, sticks, and off-hand, but steady in the bags as well. I'm considering a 22" build in 243 or 260 based solely on this stock.

Tanner , I went through the same process on my beater 308. I wanted a more packable rifle capable of extended range. I started out with it in a six enterprises stock and wound up putting it in a LTR stock. The LTR stock provides a much more stable platform and in the end thats what matters most to me.If I cant pack it around I probably have bigger issues than my rifle weight. If you want to try the six stock pm me and ill send it to you.Its the top one , I call the paint Antelope puke green. Haha

BC, I ended up going with a Manners MCS-T. Thanks for the offer, it looks like you've got your rig nicely done up.
That 6 stock looks like a pretty nice shape.
