I called the co-op and they don't carry it. There are no feed mills in this area. Is there any particular kind of molasses to use to kill nut sedge? Is it found in grocery stores?

We buy ours from a Mennonite community that is about an hour away. Used to get it from family in Northeast Alabama that made it, but they have all retired.

Check out the link on my thread about nutsedge. They claim the 1/2 cup in a gallon of water sprayed on the nut sedge and then sprayed again in two weeks will kill it.

If you need only 1/2 cup you should be able to buy it at the grocery store I would think.

Sounds like a great way to feed the ants to me however.

I know walmart sells it if your grocery store doesn't. If you strike out you can order 16oz jars off Amazon.

Can't speak to the molasses but your question brought back memories of Sand Mountain sorgum syrup. Used to find it in roadside stands up there around Gadsden & Fort Payne. Best syrup I ever laid a lip to. Get a fresh cooked corn muffin, break it open, layer both sides with butter then a big dollup of sorgum. Think I done flung a cravin' on myself.

Grocery store will have it in the baking aisle or by the pancake syrup.

To each his own, Mickey . . . Roundup is for nutsedge, molasses is for pancakes, waffles or scrapple grin.

How do you get the mole to hold still?

I haven't had much luck with Roundup killing the nutsedge in my garden Nick. That stuff is the devil!! Thanks for the link Mickey, I'm going to give it a try.

I take a five gallon bucket to a feed mill. I pay about $10 and it lasts a long time. I use it for other things as well. This is not food grade.

Heck, MColeman, I buy it in the grocery store and I live in Yankeeland laugh.
It is just the little pint bottles here so I am sure you can find it in the store by you.
I was born in WVA with family from NC, so I taught my Illinois wife a little about molasses. Started with making dark rye bread and slowly moved to putting it on biscuits.
One of these days we will escape Illinausea and go home to West Virginia.
Best of luck in the weed killing.
