I picked one up in 7mm-08 for deer hunting. I'm thinking they didn't make very many of these.

As it happens, I have two of the New Haven Classic SS Ultimate Shadows, one a 7mm-08 and the other a .243, both NIB. The ones I have are from a limited run and non-catalogued. There were also .308's. These have 24" barrels. If memory serves, these were also made as a regular production item, but with 22" barrels. The Blue Book doesn't back me up on this, but I don't place a lot of stock in the Blue Book. I will research this more later, but I don't have the time right now, maybe this evening. Does your 7mm-08 fall in the G3029XXX serial number range? Later.

P.S. These rifles that were part of the limited run, had standard contour barrels, not the "Featherweight" contour barrels, that may be what I was thinking of, when I said in my previous post that others were made with 22" barrels. I'll get back to you.

Mine has a standard contur 24" barrel. My serial number is G302941X. If you were going to put this barreled action in a different stock, would you keep the old stock?

OK, I checked this out, and here is what I found. The Classic Ultimate Shadows were introduced in 2003, produced through 2005, as they are absent in the 2006 catalog. The regular production models were only produced in WSM's and WSSM's. The non-catalogued limited run of .243/7-08/.308 was probably manufactured in 2006. I know I bought my two in 2006. I don't know how many of each was produced. I don't know if these were produced as a special order for some distributor, or if Winchester decided to produce them on their own. I have seen exactly one of each chambering in this limited run. These all had the standard contour barrels, not the Featherweight contour barrels. The serial number on your rifle is only about 20 numbers higher than my 7-08. There, that's about all I know!

I would keep the original stock, that way the rifle could be put back to original. But, that's just me! I am a hoarder of the first rate, and I even have extra factory stocks for many of my M70's! grin

I would be definitely interested to hear how this rifle shoots. My money is on that it's a darn good shooter!

Good luck!
