I am working on this rifle to take elk hunting in Jan. this year.
The load is pretty rudimentary. 56gr. H4831, Fed 210, 150 gr. Partition @ 3.270". The speed is 100 fps less than my 24" 84L for the same combination. I have the trigger pull down to 3#.
The hardest thing to get comfortable with is that 3 power Weaver.
At 200 yards, the crosswires subtend my 5" square targets with a little peeking out in four corners. I was pretty happy with the 3 and 4 shot groups. Here is a four shot target representative of what it can do.
I hate to change anything cause this is what the previous owner had on it from about 1960! I wish this baby could produce hunt photos!

That sure is a nice rifle. Looks like its hovering around 1 moa accuracy too. Is it bedded and freefloated or did you leave it all natural?

The original owner full length bedded it back in the early 60's when employed by Gopher Shooters Supply.
A very close look shows a brown line running down each side of the barrel.
Maybe I'll get a photo posted of it.

bigwoop,
What a great rifle! A really neat period rig.
I hope to score a 270 gopher special like that some day.

The full length bedding is a brown that matches the stock color.
Most wouldn't even know it was there. However, I took it out of the action today and remembered that the bedding has small bits of wood in it that are visible and also make the barrel channel look like normal wood. Another way of describing it is that it looks like darker brown cork.
