What location do you choose to shoot big northern whitetails, in the shoulder to break both or double lung them? I also hunt from a tree stand which brings elevation into play. I have had by-pass surgery in July and I am using a smaller caliber for less recoil so a few things are new to me. Thoughts? Buckfever1

High shoulder shot if you don't like tracking.

High shoulder shot if you don't like tracking. Yep. Only wiggle is the split second the butt begins to fall before the rest of the deer gives way.

My daugther, two sons and myself have take many midwestern deer with a variety of angles and impact points over the past six years. The TSX has performed most efficiently in all instances. I feel like it kills at least one if not two chamberings above a 257 caliber. Great bullet.

Do you get alot meat damage with a high shoulder shot using Barnes? I know with Remington core-loks 100g in 243 i was damaging too much meat.

I know I'm odd but I just shoot them in the lungs and they rarely go very far if at all. The big one my dad shot through the lungs last year with a cheap core-lokt just tipped over. Kinda odd too..

It is amazingly odd how little meat damage is incurred compared to cup/core designs. Golf ball sized losses are the norm.

.257"/100g TTSX or .308"/168g TTSX or .308"/180g (MRX), antelope and deer just don't like them. Haven't had any go more than a few steps, most have gone straight down.

Got back from the range today and shot a 1/2" with my 6.5x55 T3 with 100 grain TTSX. I have never hunted with this small a bullet because I usually use a 30-06. I am told this bullet is good for any size deer and high shoulder shots work great. Well I will find out. With the gun this accurate if I don't hit it right it can only be on me! Thanks Buckfever1

I have a .257 R and a .25-06 and I have seen no need to use a Barnes bullet on deer. I'm using a 100 gr Partitions in both rifles and they work very well.

Gents do you use the top of the shoulder shot or try to double lung them? Thanks Buckfever1

Buckfever, Really for me, it's how the shot is presented. I'm generally a double lung guy. If you're lucky enough to get a good one in front of you, after you've let the air out of him, you're going to laugh at the fear and anxiety you put yourself through over the bullet thing. BTDT.

double lung if its a buck probably going to run, many does as well, shoulder or neck its not going to run. A deer can go up to 100 yards without any lungs.
