I just bought one off here for the Grandson as a first rifle. It should be a great little rifle for him. Does anyone know when these were made, how many of them or have any "pet loads" for one?

NIce find! I seem to remember the Carbines being available in the early to mid 90's also but I'm not sure about them being available in 250 at that time.

Here's one of my Carbines, this one is in 257 but I do have a 250/3000 also but mine was made in 1948.

I think the carbine in 250-3000 was only made from 1986-1987.

And also of course, there was the pre-64 carbine, available more than one year I believe smile

Very cool little rifle that I never knew existed. Looks like I've got another one to add to the want list ...

Yep, I had never seen one either. Could there be a sweeter kids rifle than this?

160user, looks like your question went unanswered. I bought two of these carbines new, one in .250 Savage, the other in .223. Neither gun was particularly accurate, but seems among the best loads for the .250 was the 100 grain Sierra flatbase and 34 grains IMR-4064 (just under 2700 fps).

In other .250 Sav. rifles, 32 grains H4895 has done well with the same bullet (2700+fps). Don't recall trying this load in the M70 carbine.

I got the rifle and took it to the range with some factory Remington 100 grainers and they did about 1 inch. I can certainly live with that!
