Muley, that squid might just be a bit ripe, but imigine a fresh one, there would be squid for the entire population of say Liliwaup Washington with some to spare. But a dead critter that has been dead for a while is not my idea of fresh sea food.
A few summers back I was working on the coast as a health depart official checking for elevated levels of fecal coliform in streams that pass near or through developed lands when I came accross the carcus of a Grey Whale that had washed up on the beach. The beaches were closed to motor vehicles so only folks like me could gain easy access to the dead critter. Over the period of three months this whale deterioated and was finaly taken by a storm. During that period I learned that at 65-70 mph the stench would only last a little while in the cab of my truck. Rotting whale stinks really bad. That was about 11 tons of rotten flesh. 550 pounds might not be so bad...nah I've had my share.

Bullwnkl.

Try one of the different shore lunch mixes from the store. Have the fish slightly damp, roll it in the dry shore lunch, and fry it in your deep frier( your next batch of french fries will be a little OFF if you don't change the oil).
