Model 7 .260
Ruger Compact .260

...or 7-08 or .308

Compact 3-9 scope and shoot the Nosler BT or Hornady Interlock that shot the best.

Same as Follically Challenged and Steelhead - a rem 722/700 in 300SAV, mcmillan, and a 4x.

Hard not to take the model 99 in fair weather, though.

Remington 700 titanium, 7mm-08, McMillan Mountain Rifle (edge), leupold vx3 2.5-8x36, Jewell trigger. I was able to shave another couple ounces with a Callahan firing pin, so it is now 6lb 0.8oz. This would get my vote.
For medium range on whitetails, pick whatever load shoots particularly well in your rifle.

2-7 or 3-9 scope on top.

Crazy good $20.00 Enlan F723 folder from Vince.

That's a pretty nice rig idea carbon. They make Talleys for those things? A Loopie could save you some weight too I'm thinkin'.

Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather .308 Win that just arrived today. How's that for new?

It'll wear a Minox ZA-5 2-10x40 in Talley Lightweights.

Talley's website list LWs for the American. Would be cool to cut the pork to 6.5 lbs ready to kill.

Savage Hog Hunter, 223rem, phantom FH and Leupold 3-9x40 with aluminas.
Come 2013 I'll switch the factory plastic with a MCMILLAN, the phantom with an AAC can and the rifleman with a VX-R patrol.

Sure, Remington 700 with Douglas stainless tube cut to 21", contour between a Mountain rifle and sporter and measures .6 at the muzzle. McMillan Hunter's Edge and a Leupold 2-7x with heavy duplex.

Carl, I bought one of those 77mkII ultralights for my son. His is a .257 Roberts and he is positive it will kill anything that walks the earth. I've shot a few with it myself.

Good little rifle.

Kimber Montana or 84M in 7/08.If this were also chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, I'm all in.

M70 Compact in 7/08.

I have used the Rem M7 Custom shop in 7/08 with 20" barrel. It works well, too

These are the only "short action" cartridges that really tempt me.

Scopes? Nothing over a 2-7 or so; a 3-9 is way too big for the Northeast.Unnecessary stuff.

The 280 Remington is overbore.

The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.
