While I mostly use factory loads for my hunting, occasionally I use reloads..mostly for ammo the factory does not provide..One of my favorites for small birds like huns, chukar, and feral pigeons is a load of 3 1/4-1 1/4-7's..I suppose 6's or 7 1/2's would work as well, but the preformance of this load has been really outstanding on game..Anyone else still reload most or some of their hunting loads????

I load all my hunting loads including shotgun slugs. I load magnum 5's in the 12 and 20 gauge and copper 6's in the 28 gauge.

I load almost all of my upland shells. Here is a pic of my old Charles Daly 16ga with a brace of birds killed with my brass hull reloads last week in South Dakota. I roll crimp 2 1/2" paper hulls for this gun also.

Load all my and my sons hunting shells, 12, 16, 20 and 28 gauges for pheasant, grouse, chukars, huns and sharptails. Load a few 2 1/2" 12 and 16 paper and plastic shells as well. Just today loaded some once fired Western paper 12 ga. hulls from the 1960's using fiber wads. I'll use those when I'm feeling "retro" and carrying my old Cogswell side by side or a 1950's Ithaca 37 pump for pheasants. I haven't purchased more than a box or two of loaded ammo, including rifle cartridges, in I'm guessing 20, 25 years. Never had a misfire or a blooper while hunting in all that time, knock on wood.

Hand load for birds?
YOU BET!!
My all time favourite shotgun is a Westley Richards hammer double in 12, I load lead 7 1/2's with 3 drams of FFG for upland and
#4 Nice Shot and 3 drams for decoyed ducks and geese!
Brass cases are Mag tec, so Ii use 10 gauge wads in them because of the thin walls.
I also hunt with 16 and 20 gauge Damascuss haammer double s and black powder.

What a fine pair of old shotguns..those old hammer guns always interested me..when I was shooting doubles, I planned to buy one, but never got it located at the right price..now since I only use pumps, I have a nice model 97..old guns are fun...

WyoCoyoteHunter, must of liked the "pokes" hat on my son. A young guy that works for me was their defensive captain a couple years ago and he gave him the hat.

Here's a photo of the Western Super X hulls. I use 1 1/8 oz shot, a nitro card and fiber wad all over Clays powder. Getting 1150 fps and ready for hunting.

Old papers sure bring back lots of memories, and the smell of the fired shell is unforgettable..I do load quite a bit mostly for target, but occasionally get some Fed. paper target hulls from the range..loaded for hunting they sure bring back the old days...

I load paper as well, but REALLY like messing with brass cases!:>)
These are 12,16,20, and 28 guage Mag tec cases, they take a large pistol primer.

I have a few flats of empty Kent Gamebore papers that I plan to hand load this winter , and yes, the smell of paper is great- something I missed from my childhood until I once again started shooting paper hulls!
