The luck was with me this year and I drew a buck pronghorn tag and a bison tag. I'll be buying a lotto ticket tonight to see if the luck continues.

Anyway I have a place near the wyoming border and made quite a few trips to wyoming over the last few months.
The drought has been bad and I saw very few speed goats compared to prior years.
This is one that was safe on private ground.

I finally managed to find one on Blm ground and dropped this guy at around 200 yards with a 7mm08. He is about average size for the area south of Pinedale.

Next up was the buff hunt. This is a once in a life time draw and I drew an "any" bison tag.
It's not that hard to find a buffalo, the problem is finding one on the right side of the line. They have to leave Teton Park.
I made several trips over with no luck.
Being from Idaho, I'm partial to Idaho scenery but Wyoming also has some nice scenery.

It was cold last weekend--7 degrees.
I finally found a bull on the right side of the line. Fish and game said they had a lot of buff killed openning weekend (back in August) but that since that time no snow and not many animals have left the park.
I can tell you that it is a matter of luck. And certainly not a for sure thing.
Here's my bull

I shot it with an older model 70 375 h/h with 300gr triple shock. It dropped with one shot.

Should be some good eating.

Great story and pics. For some reason I'd love the chance to go after buffalo someday.

Did you weigh your buff or do you have any guess as to how much it weighed live or lbs of meat?

You should put in for the power ball at $500M! Good luck comes in 3's.

Congrats on the pronghorn and bison. Very cool hunt report. I'm also curious how you packed him out?

Hi guys and thanks for all the kudos.

These things are big----much much bigger than any elk I've ever seen. One person can't begin to even roll them over or move their head around for a picture.
There's a outfit in Jackson that will drag the beast out and haul it to the processors. I hired them.
They have draft horses, trucks with about a mile of cable, winches, gin poles etc. They know what they are doing and without their help I'd still be there.

They estimated the bull weighed around 1700-1800 lbs on the hoof and the hanging weight at Jackson Ice was 900 lbs.

I had talked to quite a few people about shot placement and the consensus was that the hump will trick you into aiming too high--so you aim low and them aim a little lower.
I still hit a little high and the bullet lodged in the off shoulder.

Very nice pics you got there, thank for sharing them! I've seen a lot of buffalo in the park and always wondered if they could be hunted. I would say you got yourself a great bull.
