Building a 7x57AI Mauser sporter with a VZ24 straight-handled receiver and a 21" F14 A&B 1:9.5" barrel. NECG single express leaf rear sight and hooded front sight with gold bead. I don't intend on adding a scope.
Want to focus on a single load, changing out the front sight to get the POI I want. Would like to use the gun for deer stand hunting....most shots in the 80-100 yard range. Looking for a 200 yard zero, which, with a 140 grain bullet, would put me about 1 1/2" high at 100.
I really like the .284" 140 Sierra Pro-Hunter. It's my standard bullet in a 7-08 I have. If I use a 140 grain bullet, I'm looking at a powder like H414 or a Re-17, possibly Re-19. If Re-19, it would need to be a slightly compressed load per QL.
Any 7x57AI drivers out there who have a preference between 120's or 140's and can offer some advice?
