I had a couple with nice wood, but that would not offset the poor accuracy. Sold them.

I'm not sure if this qualifies, but I just bought a #1 about a month ago and last week I put ten rounds through this baby. Chambered in .405 Winchester.

DrDeath; A late shooting mentor of mine had about a dozen early No. 1's, many with very nicely figured butt stocks. We weren't so digital back then in those days and I never thought to take photos of them somehow. For a number of years this was my saddle gun when I was hunting, an '82 vintage in .300 Win Mag. I installed a Moyer's trigger in it, added a Gentry barrel band and then made up a fore end the way I thought it should look and feel. It served me faithfully for many years, but as we got out of horses a couple years ago I didn't take it out much anymore. When a friend of our neighbor's offered me a fair price for it I sold it to help offset the cost of our eldest daughter's electric drum kit. Anyway, someday I might play with another No. 1 as I found a lot to like about them. Thanks for the thread and thanks to those who have posted photos already or still might. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all. Regards, Dwayne

Dwayne,
Nice job on the foreend! Did you use the factory wood and just slim it down?

Dwayne, My sympathies. Years ago I bought my son a set of electric drums. One of the purchases that I had mixed feelings about. It made my son happy, which I was glad about, but I didn't like wearing hearing protection in the house. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you. Norm

Thanks for this awesome thread. Tex, I really like the picture of the 30/40 Krag and the buck. My 405 win No.1 is my favorite. It's amazing how accurate the 405 win is.

Get one, you'll likely be happy with accuracy. I haven't heard much bad about the recent ones. My 2005 '06 shoots great and looks it too. I gotta figure out posting pics here.

Older 7mm Rem mag I picked up used: Didn't buy this one, a .458 Win mag, but it sure was pretty:
