I ordered lightroom 4 for Pam for Christmas, she opens the box and it's a student/teacher edition and it's got all these warnings on the box about eligibility etc. sonofa... Dammit, so we have to return this or? Will it not work??

It looks like I've failed miserably with my gift purchasing. If someone can point me in the right direction for some personal use hobby type software I'd appreciate it. I'm assuming I have to purchase "creative cloud" then expand/upgrade to lightroom 4?
is this correct?

If you don't want it, take it back where you got it and get the one you want.

ordered off amazon, gotta repack and mail it back it.
I'm just looking for a little help as to what exactly I am supposed to be buying. Don't want to get LR 4 only to find out it's an upgrade to something I should have had first.

Do you have the key code? If so it will work just fine. The student/teacher edition is the same as the full price package. just discounted in price for the education market

I purchased a non teacher version download of LR 4. She's installing it now. Hopefully we wont have trouble returning the accidental purchase of teacher edition.

She started going throught he tutorial videos which are on the adobe website. So far so good, she's having fun with it, it seems a bit overwealming but she's having fun and suddenly she's very interested in shooting RAW.
She's sending the teacher version CD back to amazon today.
Glad I was able to correct my mistake by purchasing a download version and getting her up and running on Christmas with her gift. It sucked to find out I bought her the wrong one.

Now you've done it! Photography will make suitable gift selections for birthdays and Christmas a bit easier for several years though.
A couple back up external hard drives might be a good suggestion next go around.
Yes, RAWS are the way to go.

I prefer RAW as well. When you get pretty serious about things RAW is pretty much the way to go.
I logged back in to mention the tutorials but I see ya already found em ;-)
