I need recommendations on which board (or plaque, whatever you call it) to mount whitetail antlers on. I've used the cheap ones you find at Wal-Mart but have always been disappointed. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Make your own. Find yourself a decent piece of Oak, Cherry, Walnut, or whatever hardwood your partial to. Sketch out whatever shape you want. Spend a couple minutes on the bandsaw and router. Sand it. Pick your poison as far as finish goes. Wham, bam, thank you ma'am - you've got a nice plaque to mount your antlers on.

Old barn wood looks good. I have recently used a 16" log of red oak, cut on an angle, leaving some bark. Finish it the way you want, made it for a friend who wanted to hang it outside. Put Thompsons water seal on it, looks great and will last thru the humidity down here.

I'm partial to an old piece of cypress.
