I've been looking at powders for my future BPCR and see in the different forums where the majority of shooters are using either 1.5f or 2f in their .45-70's and .45-90's. I've heard that some powders create a harder fouling than others. For the folks here that compete (even if it's with yourselves ) what is your preferred powder size and manufacturer? Thanks, Ed

Swiss 1.5 in .40-82, .45-70, and .45-90. Keeps it simple.

Right now, I'ld say if you're shooting a 45-90 then KIK 1.5 is a good route to take. If the cartridge is 45-70 then KIK 2f is the way to go.

If you want top accuracy, Swiss 1.5 fg is still getting it done and is the clear favorite.

I still have a fair amount of GOEX Express FFG. Per advice from an experienced fella wid a 44/90 I'll be gittin' a chitload of KIK 1.5 . My 45/110 likes the FFG.

Thank you, Gentlemen (yes, even you, Jim! ). I see that Graf & Sons carries Goex & Swiss (Swiss is SPENDY!!! ) but I don't know of a source for KIK. Any suggestions? Ed

(Swiss is SPENDY!!! ) You get what you pay for. Don't run second rate powder in a high dollar rifle just to save a few bucks. It is not worth your time and effort.

Ubecha. Those prices are delivered to your door. You can mix brands in a single order (except diamondback and for what ever reason it can only be shipped in full case lots, which is ok as most folks that tried it usually consider it pretty lousy stuff). That way you can order a variety of powder and see just what you and your gun think works the best.

I see that Powder, Inc is in Clarksvile, AR. I have to be in Ft. Smith next month on bidness and Clarksville is just down the road.
Anyone know if you can pick the stuff up in person versus having it shipped?

You do have to pay sales tax instead of the shipping , so the prices are a bit different over the counter.

The more I read, the more I see 1.5 being the powder of choice. Figures since I picked up 25 lbs of 2F Goex Express about a year ago. Still trying to burn up some other brands though before I torch any of that off.

Ed, my 45-120 shot well with Swiss 2F but the fouling was hard, KIK 2F gives equal or slightly better accuracy and much softer fouling.
