Thinking of adding a general purpose .40 S&W, in either a full size or Commander-size(compact) pistol. Probably not interested in a subcompact, like a Kahr or EMP.
I have a 1911 barrel in .40, and a couple of Colt Deltas that could run it, but I've tried it in 1911 variants in the past, but think it really belongs in a different platform. I've owned a Glock Model 22 in the past, but don't particularly want another Glock. I sorta like the M&P .40, and there are versions locally for sale with, and without the thumb safety.
Are there any pistols out there that were designed primarily for the .40, rather than on a 9mm frame?
Thanks in advance

I have a single stack and double stack 1911 in 40 and love them both. The Glock and XD are nice too.

My favorites was my wife's sig 229. It was as close to perfect as what you can get IMO.

Thanks in advance This is my favorite: Below it is my favorite 45. Have a 9mm just like these (in the mail), coming this way as we speak....
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

The Glock is hard to beat. But I have a USP. I got to shoot a Berretta m 96? That was a great shooter, I like it better than my USP.

I really like my M&P pro in 40. Very accurate and fits my hand really well.

At one time I owned a Browning Hi-Power Tatical in .40 S&W.
GREAT pistol!
I had put Craig Spegal thin line grips on it and had installed nigh sights.
This was another that I should have NEVER let get away.

Beretta 96 if you can handle a full sized gun; G-23 or Sig 229 if not.

I really like my M&P pro in 40. Very accurate and fits my hand really well. That is the .40 I would be looking for. Shooting them makes my wiener stiff. Travis

A Fabrique Nationale Hi-Power (deep-blued finish and walnut grips.)
But the one that goes where I go . . . is an un-cataloged CZ 40-P.

I have an XD40, an S&W 4006 and a H&K USP40C. All three are great shooters, with their own characteristics. The XD has the typical "mushy" striker fired trigger, the 4006 is the heaviest of the bunch, obviously, and has a tick in the trigger pull from the mag safety, and the USP has the best trigger of the three. I don't think you'd go wrong with any of them. The FN40P is also a very nice pistol - I have the FN9 and it is a really nice handling weapon.
Regards,
Tom

The only one I own, my pawn shop Para 16-40 that I fitted a second 10mm Bar-Sto barrel and bushing to. Shoots them both fine out of the same magazines, just swap springs.

Id have to say the one .40 I really liked was a Sig 239 (single stack) With the Hogue grip it was a real tame shooter! nicer then the glock 23 I had. (239 also Past tense Had)
I was looking at a H&K P 30 with LE trigger yesterday wow!! but at a grand that is tough this time of year.
I may opt for a Beretta or Sig again

We have owned a Hi-Power, an M&P compact, a SW99 compact, an XD sub-compact, and a Glock 23. Not a bad one in the bunch!

I replace valve cover gaskets every 50K, if they don't need them sooner...

Although I would love to get a Sig.. Mark looks like he has some good and clean deals right now. Must resist the temptation.. http://summitgunbroker.com/USED_SIGS.html
