Sounds like the same folks who think disarming law abiding persons while outlaws keep their's would work.

The 270 doesn't start its rise till about 1000 yds, it still shoots flatter and has enough energy to stop a locomotive head on with one shot. wink

JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

The only thing that gently rises is the BS level for each page of a thread like this...we are in deep now. grin

My Ottmar shoots a 130 Prtition at 3100 fps......which matches nicely with the Z600 reticle on the Zeiss Conquest 3-9...

So its a 600 yard rifle, no?

grin

Doug I did not know it matched up with that Zeiss reticle...interesting.Might get there if a guy spun a turret, too. smile

I had a guy, straight faced, telling me about shooting a coyote at 700 yards. Now, I know that some guys can do that sort of thing, and since I had just met the fellow I decided to find out if he was one of them. I asked him what he used. I didn't hear about the "set-up" but simply "7mm Mag." I replied, "Wow, what is the hold over on that thing at 700 yards?" You guessed it! There is no hold over with a 7mmMag at 700 yards, he just held dead on it. At least I knew not to believe another word the guy said about anything. wink

Technically, if I use the bottom line on the Z600 Reticle, I won't have to hold over.... grin

Bob, I was pleasantly surprised as well.....but in reality that scope may be too large for the rifle....

Since we are talking .270, what if a guy just used a donor .270 to build a real rifle, would he still be at an elevated risk of catching the gay?

Lol, this thread cracks me up!!! Had a "buddy" shoot at a deer in WV from ridge to ridge with 220gr rn out of an 30-06, Ive ranged over to where he was shooting several times and its well over 500 yards, asked where he aimed, dead on he said, chuckled like hell, still made him walk over and check on it. This is the same guy that blew a hole thru my cabin from the inside on the same trip (while I was away), needless to say, he wasn't invited back.

I hate to see this thread die. Overheard a gentleman tell a buddy he was watching a sniper show and a sniper (don't remember what branch) was equal distance between two targets that were 600 yards apart. 300 from a target on the east and 300 on the west. Shot at one, result 8" high. Turned around 180 degrees and fired at the other target. Result 11" low. Said the earths rotation assisted the bullets flight going one direction and resisted it going the opposite direction. Then he says "not sure how it would work with north and south targets." All I could think was wow, who knew!!!!

A bit of advertising, but I think this is what he was talking about. It ain't 300 yards, though.

That makes more sense. Difference of 11" at 1000 yards is a bit different than 19" at 300. Interesting video. Thanks

270s have a slight back spin that creates upward lift, but just enough to keep it nice and flat. he smile
