Also, how well does the wood hold up in the field when compared to the micarta? I am waffling worse than a politician on this one! Please help.

I have 32 Ingrams, and when asked the "which one should I order" question, I usually answer the #7 because I think it's closest to most folks preconception of a drop point hunter.

For me, it's the #4, 3/32", which is Gene's most genius design, the #4 B&T modified to 3-1/4x7, 3/32", or the #7, 1/8" in semi-skinner guise, all in S35VN.

Also, if you're just doing a whitetail or so at a time the jigged scales are ok...for intensive serious work they are hot spots on the hand lurking to happen and seriously suck. Bead blasted linen micarta can't be beat in a working knife.

I am new to this knife game myself and just bought my first custom, and did so with a knife (Slim) from Gene Ingram. I skinned and quartered a cow elk with it a few weeks back and the darn thing will still shave hair off my arm. I liked it so much I ordered a Lite Skinner to go along with it. I'm sold!

That's a winning combination! I love Westinghouse micarta.

Antlers' red jigged small boner looks great, too. Did I just say that..? blush

I had seen your set and I was considering the pocket combo but wanted to give the Yellow Jacket a try and asked for it with a 3" blade. Should work well as a whitetail combo...still have a few weeks left in the season so I hope to put it to work the next couple of weeks.
