I'll never forget the first time we fed a round bale..." WTF Have we been missing out on for so long!?!?"  It is like a total enlightenment. Takes less than a minute to load 2500lbs. And less than that to feed it if you park your flatbed on an incline!

we still put up loose hay when i was a kid. we loaded it with the 'Farmahnd' and pitched it off with a pitch fork. 'twas kinda fun driving the buckrake when putting up the hay.
we went from loose hay to round bales. missed out on the small square bales...
Loose hay? Was ingwe there? Travis GFY Any of you cowboys out there ever feed small bales while you were alone. Put the truck in 1st, hop out, get on the bed and feed, jump off and hop back in? If the field was rutty sometimes you'd need a bungee cord to hold the steering wheel....

That's how I learned to 'drive'.
Dad would put the pickup in gear and say steer over towards that tree or wherever.

Ive fed big square bales that way too...flaking them off with a pitchfork while the truck rolled merrily along...

If the field was rutty sometimes you'd need a bungee cord to hold the steering wheel.... Nah, always had a tow chain layin' on the floorboard. just reach down, grab a handful and loop it thru the bottom of the steering wheel.....

Dats not a bad idea...  Had one coat hanger 'modified' for just such an occasion, but it wasnt as forgiving as the bungee cord.

One chitty thing about automatics is you can't cake many cows by yourself if there is much snow.
Pickups won't idle on their own, or they take off too fast.
Tough to beat 1st gear....grin
