Considering the exaggerated cost of powder, and the fact I scored on someones "last years price" on a 8# jug of H1000.
Has any one on here developed a .308 load with this stuff. Thanks,
G

H-1000 would most likely make an accurate load but it is too slow for the 308 Win. The velocity would be rather slow IMHO

I haven't tried, so I won't say it's impossible to develop a decent load with it. But I do load a lot of 308 ammo for a bunch of different rifles, and even if I had a free jug of H1000 I'd have zero motivation to try it.

Trade it to a handloading buddy for a suitable powder.

Well I can always stuff it in the .270, but I shoot a bunch of .308, and am curious.

H-1000 will work great in the 270 in my experience

Hey Gary, do you still have the 300 bee? If so I would be trying it in that.

H1000 is not ideal in the 308 but it will probably go bang. There is no data on Hodgdon's site so I would dip a case full, seat a bullet, and see what happens. Likely the velocity will be low and vary a lot, there will be a big flash, and there will be a lot of crap left in the barrel and on the ground in front, but it might work well enough for something. Give it a shot and let us know what happens. You never know until you try. One thing I would not do is leave any open space in the case. That might sause an S.E.E. event and ruin your day.

I'd be scared to death. All you need is one s.e.e. and your future bowling career is over...that's if you have eyes left to see the pins. If h1000 was meant to work like trailboss they would have marketed it that way?

Yea- had pretty decent results in the 300,just couldn't live up to the same thing using 4831sc, and the old vulnerable 7828. Sounds like I'm destined to haul out the .270 stuff.

One shouldn't pick a powder based on the deal of the day. Pick a powder based on performance in the round being loaded. The .308 Win is a very versatile round, adaptable to a number of mid range powders. H-1000 is a great powder, just too slow for that size case.

Fact: OP has a quantity of H-1000 powder, but not the ideal rifle to utilize this powder.

Solution: Buy a .300 Win Mag or similar to use the H-1000. Then get appropriate powder for the .308 Win.

Any excuse to buy or build another gun needs to be seized upon with gusto and utilized to the max... laugh

Fire wisdon, for sure... cool
