" I have to agree with others... that thing was LOUD! Doubling up on muffs and plugs calmed it down and it was really fun to shoot and very accurate. Late in the afternoon the fireball from the bore was impressive"

Exactly right. I had one for a couple years, it was tons of fun, but in the end not so useful, and I got rid of mine. I like the crack and fuss of a hot loaded .357 or whatever, but dang that 30 was LOUD!

No one should shoot any gun without ear protection. Once your hearing is gone you will never get it back.

Hurt bad! Worst thing I ever fired, felt like two ice picks had been driven deeply through my ears and into my skull. I stopped that after ONE shot......

Traded for one of these back in the '70's....when I was in my 20's....shot it with surplus carbine ammo....no hearing protection....once....boomtube nailed the feeling....have tried to describe how it felt but never quite found the words...excellent description....promptly traded it off....

I'm still doing the same in 5.7 X 28

I always drooled over the Ruger 30 and M1 carbine combo, until more research explained how difficult it was to get either or both to shoot accurately. No one has seemed to find the right load that will work in both.
Ruger didn't make them long for a reason.

But they are interesting guns none the less

Really, is that why Ruger still makes em????????????????????????????
