Have both propellants and wonder what you fellas are doing with this cartridge as I never loaded the 270 Winchester yet.

I have both, but have used mostly H4831 and now H4831SC for 35+ years. Lately I've been alternating with RL-22, get greater accuracy and velocity in my rifle.

The Barnes manual (4&5) say H4350 is the most accurate powder tested. Both manuals have a starting load of 52 gr. at 2927 fps and a max of 55 gr at 3133 fps.

Either will generally get good results.
I have at times with some guns gotten slightly better accuracy with H4350 but not as good of velocity as H4831, which most times also provides excellent accuracy.
H4831 will usually shoot well under most any quality 130gr bullet that your gun likes.
One of the well known and widely used classic loads for the 270 Win is 60grs of H4831 under a 130gr bullet.
The 130gr Barnes TSX or TTSX in Win. cases, WLR primer & 60grs H4831 shoots very well in a couple of 270 Wins I currently have.
I would suggest starting down around 58.5grs and working your way up about .3grs at a time watching for pressure signs until you find a sweet accuracy spot your gun likes.
FWIW - I've had guns you could go up to higher charges with, but you need to find where your particular gun shows pressure.

Try them, both have an excellent track record with the .270. Let the gun tell you which one to use.

I've used both Hs and the IMR 4831 version to great effect. Another powder that works extremely well with this bullet is Re 19.

I have yet to find a powder and bullet combo that any of my 270s haven't liked!! This caliber is by far the easiest keeper I know of.

I've gotten very good accuracy in My Cooper .270 using the 130 TSX BT and H4350, H4831, and Reloder 19. Max. load of H4350 will normally group around 5/8", H4831 a little bigger. Reloder 19 will generally beat them both, but this borders on hair-splitting. All velocities in the 3050-3,100 fps range using Fed. 210 Match primers and Rem. brass.

When working up loads for the Cooper, I tried fifteen bullets in the 130-150 grain range. The 130 TSX BT was the most accurate bullet, though several others were close.

My 270 usually grouped better with various 130s and 4350. I kept trying the magic 60 grain 4831 load but seemed to have better success with close to a max load of 4350. YMMV

My rifle is a bit of an oddity. I think it must have a slightly "loose" bore because it takes considerably more 4831 to get velocities that everyone else seems to get.

With 130g bullets, I have to go to 62g of H4831SC to get into that 3100fps range that everyone else seems to achieve with 2 to 3 grains less.

With 150 grainers, my load is 59g of H4831SC for about 2925 or a bit more. Most people seem to get those speeds with less powder.

The rifle or brass doesn't exhibit any indications of being pushed too hard, I just think its an idiosyncrasy of this gun. I am not complaining because its accurate and the loads I have worked up have been very effective on game.

For reasons above, I went to H4350 with the 130g bullets. I found I got higher speeds with comparable accuracy to 4831.

60gr of H4831SC gave me 2940. Maybe a bit slow, but can't argue the accuracy.

H4831sc has been my go to powder in any place where it has been applicable.

I went with H4350 with the 130 TSX in my .270 after testing alongside H4831sc and my favorite R22. The bullets are long enough that the other two were ending up with compressed loads and I also think the H4350's quicker burn rate may have helped bump up the bullets to fit the bore better. In any even the accuracy was much better, with the same velocities.

Agree with Partagas- 4350 has worked better. 60.0 gr. H4831 is fine as far as velocity goes, but I can rarely get either of my .270's to group it better than about 1 1/2"; H4350 gets me less than half of that.

Your rifle will tell you. Mine tells me 4530 for everything, through 160gr.

H4350 works especially for me with 13 grain Sierra's and Accubonds. The sweet spot (though not that fast) is at 52.5 grains.

H 4831sc is my go to powder for 243, 25-06, 270, and 7mm mag. Great powder for several applications. Good shooting

With a 130gr TSX, or TTSX, I tried RL22 and got horizontal stringing, which I could not cure. But, I got 3,225fps, safely in my rifle. If I could get the accuracy, I would use this.

I switched to H4831SC and IMR4350 and got great accuracy, but I lost speeds, 3,150fps with H4831SC and 3,100 with IMR 4350.

I have settled on 61.5gr of H4831SC. It appears safe in my rifle, with my components.

If you get more than 3150 in a 22" you are at way too high pressures for any of the powders listed. Your rifle has not developed an obvious problem YET.
