I have in my possession, a Remington 11-87, 12 gauge, 3" chamber, "Premier" w/full vented rib and gold trigger, SN: PC453304. The gun is in near pristine condition, with one small blemish on the top of the receiver, near where it joins the stock.

I'm interested in the date of manufacture, and the approximate value of the gun. It is offered to me to purchase, and the owner doesn't know the value, but has said I could have it for half of what it is worth. It is a beautiful gun, and I would love to purchase it, but need to know a fair price. Any help will be greatly appreciated....

thanks,

Mercy

Not a gun writer but for date of manufacture you can give Remington a call. Give them the serial no. and/or the two letter barrel code on the left side of the barrel close to the receiver. You can also probably get the barrel code info on the internet. As long as the gun has the original barrel it should be accurate.

You can check Gunbroker's web site for an idea of value or Fjestad's "Blue Book of Gun Values". IMO the 1187 "Premier" is a pretty nice shotgun but I'd be surprised if it's worth much over $600.

Not a gunwriter and not an expert either but there are several variations of Premier 11-87s.

Is it high gloss and does it have the enhanced receiver engraving?

They're not made any longer in that version. I found a new 11-87 Premier LC with the enhanced engraving a couple of years ago and snatched it.

There's a high gloss, enhanced engraving, LC, Premier model with screw in chokes in the original box on Gunboker now. Starting bid listed at $595 with no reserve. It's the only one I saw. Looks like the seller is a dealer so that might give you a reasonable idea of retail value.

It's a 7 day auction that started 2-5. So far no bids. This one has light pitting on the bottom of the receiver, looks like sweat carry marks but otherwise it seems pretty good.

Based on your description the one you're considering sounds like it's in better shape. I'm no expert either but since the owner wants to sell it to you for half of value, around $350 should be a fair offer.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your help. This particular gun does NOT have the enhanced engraving. As I look for the barrel code.... I see either an "oo" or "00".... and an "A2"..... I presume I'm looking for the "A2". It DOES have a screw-in choke. From looking at the Remington site, I presume it is a "Modified" choke.

I'll do some more checking, however, if someone has any additional info/advice.... I'd love to hear it.

Thanks again....

Mercy

I had one like you are describing several years ago. When they first came out they had the original heavier r em choke barre ls and later became available with the light contour barrel . Nice guns and pretty much under rated IMHO. I woul agree with the 500-600 dollar price range At 300- 350 dollars. It,s a steal

Not sure on the dollar value but 11-87's are fine working guns for whatever price. I had a waterfowl model that was matte black and synthetic stock/forearm. Sold it and regret it. It was workhorse that never failed me. Out in the field it went round for round with my dads Benelli super black eagle or whatever the hell it is at half the price to boot.

Keep your powder dry and stay frosty my friends.
