Can you say XDs obsolete????? It's a lighter gun AND it holds twice the 45acp
Hardly. Those who want 10 rounds in a thicker frame will find it attractive. 10 rounds is nothing to sneeze at. But simply making the slide thinner, does nothing towards making it more concealable. That's like putting a slim barrel on a revolver. The slim .45acp they offer would be more of a competitor to the XDs.

+1. I got rid of a Glock 27 because of the fat frame. Not comfortable to hold/shoot and hard to hide. This thing would be fatter with the double stack. I'll keep my XDs.
I agree that the XDS will not be impacted by this gun. The 30S will still have a fat butt like the regular 30, which is the key to hiding it. All the slim slide does is make it more comfortable for people who cant carry the extra quarter inch IWB or the extra 2-1/2 ounces of an already light gun. I can maybe see getting the 30S if someone doesnt already have a 30 or 30SF, but it certainly isnt enough difference to get another gun.
The gun that I see as being overtaken by time and the XDS is the G36. The XDs is a better product. The G36 with the 6 round magazine is as tall as the G30 variants with a 10 round magazine. Using the optional 9 round magazine with the G30 variants makes it shorter than the 36, and I can still get all my fingers on the grip. (Note that some people have posted on other forums that the 9 round magazines have been discontinued and are limited to stock on hand. I have not verified this.) I can hide a 30 with a 9 round magazine IWB easier than the 36 with the 6 round magazine. Add a 7 round extension to the 36 and it is even worse. The XDs on the other hand is easier to conceal than the 36. In addition, Springfield offers (but I have not been able to get my hands on) a factory 7 round magazine, while Glock only offers the 6 round factory magazine. Getting 7 rounds out of the 36 requires aftermarket modifications. I think that Glock would be better served to make a short, 5 round magazine and a factory 7 round magazine for the 36 rather than the current 6 round magazine in order to prolong the lifespan of the G36 and compete with the XDS. But, the company does not appear to be as nimble as it was in the beginning. I much prefer the XDs to the 36.

I like the idea of the 30s, but it doesn't marvel me. I got laughed at once, when I told a Glock Rep that I'd like to see a single stack .45 that had the same slide as a G-23.
It appears they have the ability to make a 45 with that slide thickness, so all they'd have to do is make a single stack magazine longer than the Model 36. Hopefully it would hold ten rounds in a frame and slide configuration the size of a G-22 and 8 or 9 in a G-23 size.
I'd be interested to see if the jabrone would still laugh, knowing how hard it is going to be for them to sell pistols in states with English gun laws.

Lighter weight offsets thickness. Especially when you double the rounds over the XDs. When you get below 6 rounds in the magazine you have lost most of your advantage over a revolver. As I see it if your carry choice is 45acp you have to realize that you have given up a certain measure of compactness and weight advantage over 9mm or even 40 so why also give up number of rounds doesn't make sense to me. That is why I think the 30s is the better gun over the XDs
Here's my overview of the 30s. In the vid I compare it with the 29/30, 19/23 and the 26/27.
I was looking to buy a .45 glock so this one fits the bill perfectly. I've never loved the 36 and I never carry my 29 for CCW because of the size and weight, so this gun looks great for me. I'll keep it for sure.
Not really....Glock "unloaded" is 20.28 oz and XDs is 21.5 oz. That's a grand total of 1.22 oz difference.."unloaded". When you load them, the Glock weighs more because of the extra ammo....and it's still "fat". To each his own...I don't like a double stack grip on a small gun. Don't mind it so much on a larger one. My Glock 19 is OK with it's double stack mag because it has a longer grip so I can get a better hold on it. A grip that is both short and fat is just not my thing. I'm happy with the thinner XDs...even with fewer rounds. Like I said..to each his own but I doubt this Glock will spell the death of the XDs.
I had an XDs for a while, but I couldn't warm up to it. The bore axis is quite high and I just never got comfortable with it. It is quite a bit slimmer than the glock, though. Significantly slimmer. The better glock comparison to the XDs is the 36 with the single stack slimmer frame.
As far as power to weight ratio - I don't think you can beat the 30s. You have 10+1 shots of .45 in a very small package.
I don't think the 30s will hurt sales of the XDs too much - but I don't know why anybody would buy a regular glock 30 now. It does the same thing better.

You're right...on all this. Different "feel" for each of us. I have both and while they are different, I'm comfortable with them. All good guns...just what you happen to prefer.
So far, no luck acquiring one of these Glock 30S models. Apparently, they just introduced them at the Shot Show, which I believe was in January. No one has any, and no one knows when they will be getting any in, even though they've been having lots of customer interest in them.
TRH, Just curious how changing slide width is going to rectify your main complaints of the trigger or ergonomics of the grip on any Glock? You could always do what folks were doing before Glock got the idea and just buy a 30 and a 36 and swap the 36 slide onto the 30 frame. That has been going on for years with people who have an issue with the slide width of the 30.
