USNavy, 1959-1964. Tin cans, and a tanker. Cans were the Hugh Purvis and RA Owens, tanker the Elokomen. Cuban blockade, first space launch recovery vehicles group, (operation Mercury I believe) hit Gtmo bay Cuba twice, Iceland, Norway, Germany, Ireland, England (twice) Spain, Franch, Italy (3 times), Greece, Lebanon, Eritria, Aden Saudi Arabia, and Ceylon (Sri Lanka)..
No "combat" though we did stop a Russian freighter heading for Cuba and made them turn around, as had obvious rockets on board.
Hey, Plumber, see ya when ya get back..

Hi 30mmplumber. This avatar shows me shooting a 30mm black powder muzzle loader equipped with about the last 5 feet of one retired GAU-8 barrel. This puppy really roars. Just thought you might appreciate how a 30mm barrel never really retires if it's in the right hands.

1969-1977 USAR SFC when I walked out and was being considered for First Sargant BCT and AIT Ft Jackson SC Supply Instructor Ft LEE Va Ft Leonardwood, Missouri Combat Engineer Site Chief (5 sites) Also Instructor Have 2 bad knees and some other stuff to remind me of my time in the military. 50% disabled Yea I know I never did anything but collect my money and play soldier heard it a million times. I took my time seriously and paid the price for it. Few got my rank or see what I saw in the Reserves back then it was a place to hide from the draft.
Just side note shdwlkr refers to the guys who walked off the field of battle back then and can never admit they made it home to no one. They will always have to remain in the shadows of life. To bad the government just doesn't give them amnesty so they can clean up some of the missing records from that time in our nations history.

In a free country the government doesn't fear its citizens and there firearms. In a crocked government everything is up to be removed even the citizens if they truly believe in freedom.

I Vet that can't post. Our Son Charlie is coming home from his tour in Afgan next Thursday. Its been a long year and several bad phone calls and events. I am so glad that he's able to come home with all his limbs and in one pc. When I started this thread I knew that the Campfire was full of brothers and sisters from every branch, thanks for everyone posting here !

Tin Can Rider aboard the USS Henry W Tucker DD875 Also know as the Hammering Hank or "Willow" by the US marines that called for gun fire off coast VietNam.1964 1968.
I'd rather die in a BAD gunfight than a GOOD nursing home.
