Custom fancy grade striped maple stock from Great American Gunstock Co. This stock is semi-finished. Per manufacturer:
"SEMI-FINISHED": This term refers to a gunstock that is completely shaped and machine inletted, but has not yet been fitted to a gun. The term "Inletting" refers to the inside cuts in the stock for the gun to fit into.

This will work for any tang safety, short action (.308 based) Ruger RSI M77. Will make a one of a kind gun when finished, I just don't have the time to complete this project. $275 shipped.

Can you tell how deep that stain goes on the right side of the butt? Or can you take a picture of the grain/color at the butt (plate) end?

Thanks,
Jeff

Looks pretty superficial, hopefully these pics help show it better.

Very strong probability that is western bigleaf maple. The nature of the tiny bit of spalting and the "look" of the fiddleback, coupled with the endgrain photo, primarily the width and shape of the annual rings give lots of indication it is bigleaf.

Bigleaf is stronger on a weight to strength ratio than walnut. It also works easily and finishes nicely... but avoid old-time stain formulas as some are used to prove species... The wood turns a sick olive color... This is absolutely no problem with a modern factory finish.

Mark Begich, Joaquin Jackson, and Heller resistance... Three huge reasons to worry about the NRA.
