Who makes a good Trapdoor Springfield or Rolling Block clone? I am thinking about venturing into 45/70 black powder shooting and think that those rifles would be interesting. Should I just set my sights on getting a Sharps? Any suggestions about favorite rifles would be welcome.

If it was me I'd just get a nice 1874 Shiloh but if you really desire a trapdoor check out this link..

Yes, I think you'd be happier with a High Wall, or Sharps.

Trapdoors ?

Weak, half azzed, provisional design, and I've worked over and on a LOT of the bloody abortions.

Not uncommon for them to blow up,.....

This WAS a "Smokeless incident" :

But, I've seen em'give up with BP loads, as well.

Rolling Blocks ? ,......STRONG, reliable, accurate,.... once one understands THEIR weak points ( potential for slam Fire being right at the top of that list)

With Dave Higginbotham (Lone Star Rifle co.) gone, God rest his bones,he built legendary quality guns,
......the only "Replica" I know of would be the Pedersoli, and the Italians took a lot of liberties with their 'Interpretation',of Remington's design......wouldn't own one, myself.

IF ya get a Sharps, do it right the first time and get a Shiloh or C.Sharps. OTW get a quality High Wall. Less cost fine shooters.

Yes, go with a Sharps by Shiloh or C. Sharps Arms. And the 1885 Highwall from C. Sharps Arms is a lot of rifle for the $$$.

I picked up a good shooter original High Wall in 45-90 a few weeks ago, for about the list price of a Pedersoli, so if you look you can find them. 3-4 months ago I saw a gorgeous restored High wall in .45-90 for $3k. The High Wall is a good action and can take any reasonable BP load.
