Hmmm, seem to remember reading here on the forum that Norma and also Sellier and Bellot were both making 5.6 X 52R ammo that will chamber in the 22 Highpower.

My local dealer says that they can't get it on special order. Any other sources (online maybe?), and does this stuff work in the 22 HP?

Many thanks!

The S&B and Norma shot fine in my 22HP, I've heard others say it didn't shoot well in theirs. So might be a rifle by rifle thing.. worst case is that it becomes a source of brass for reloading.

I ran into about 5 boxes of Norma a month ago, guy was asking $35/box I think. Was tempted, but didn't need them so they are probably still there.

Otherwise, gunbroker or other online sources are the best places.

Yeah, S&B doesn't work so good in mine.

Shouldn't be a .223 bullet in that stuff. All the ones I ever shot were .228's.

The S&B and Norma ammo is loaded with semi-spitzer 70 grain bullets which are short enough to stabilize in the 1-12" twist rate of our 1899 Savages. Those samplings of those Euro loadings always shot well for me. My gripe with them is the fact that they're loaded hot which does nothing for case life after initial firing. The last batch of Normas I stumbled onto I pulled the bullets and dumped the powder and re-loaded them with a lesser powder charge. Those Euro cases are a skinch smaller in head diameter which doesn't help for long case life either. Best bet is to form them from .25/35's or (if you're a real glutton for punishment) from .30/30's.

All in all, if you plan to shoot a .22HP very much, it's time to buy a set of dies and a bag of .25/35 brass.

I've got a few boxes of S&B 22 HP ammo that I would sell if anybody is interested. I roll my own now, and don't need them. PM me if interested.

I bought a couple hundred rounds (S&B) from these guys about a month ago. I got them about 2 weeks after I ordered them. They appear to still have the ammo in stock.

My bad.
It has been years since I fired any, experienced poor accuracy (only ammo I ever fired out of that rifle, must have been another problem) and heard somewhere that they were 223.

Glad to hear that is not the case.

About a year ago i bought 100 rounds of S&B 5.6x52R online from Graf&Sons at $16 a box. I've only shot like 6 rounds of it but of course it works, got a small 8 point last december with it cool

s&b shoots patterns outta mine, not groups. had a bit of factory norma that wasn't much better, and my rifle came with about 70 rounds of canadian factory ammo that shot poorly. fianally got the "pet loads" book and a set of dies, and found a few boxes of speer .228 70's and fell head over heels in love with the little critter. i don't expect it to shoot m.o.a.; it gives me m.o.c. (minute of coyote) all the time now, and i even get good results out of .224's. buffalo arms has 3 sizes of .228's, some of which my rifle shoots well enough. can't argue with ken's load data; my little sweety shoots same as his, pretty much--and he went through three rifles finding one that gave him enough consistency to figure out loads. by the way, there's a fella on gb that forms brass from 30-30 for about 60 cents a pop; it's really good stuff!

Thanks Rod for fixing me up. Much appreciated.

Thanks also to the other folks who gave the links to a couple of other suppliers. Good info for the future!
