I just got word that my Chip McCormick mags have shipped.

It has taken 2.5 weeks from the time I ordered.

But

I understand they are worth it

whats the verdict on the McCormick mags? Are they of good quality? I saw some on my LGS and they were $21 each. not bad price but did not buy any. thought about swinging by to buy some.

McCormick and Wilson are the best mags in the business for 1911's IMHO.

I recently bought a Wilson mag - from Wilson - wait was a whole lot less than that. Had it in a few days.

So are the McCormick mags still the same as the old Shooting Stars? I have some McCormick/Shooting Stars that Ive been using for over 20 years now and they have performed flawlessly. These days Im 100% sold on the ACT-MAGs, I think theyre the best quality magazines out there. I still have my McCormick/Shooting Stars on standby though, and I know theyll always come through. But the ACT-MAGs havent had a single bobble in the past 8 years.

I have some of the old shooting star as well as the newer power mags, I can detect no difference, cept the power mags hold 10 rounds, the ACT's sound interesting too.

Well I recommend you buy just one and take it for a test drive. My S&W M1911PD came with two ACT-MAGs that had S&W logos on them and I decided to give them a try, and Im very impressed. So I bought a few more, and theyre now my favorite. They have a removable floorplate which makes disassembly easy (not that disassembling a solid bottom mag is hard), which incorporates a bumper pad that just happens to be about perfect size for me. Followers are stainless steel, and I have a very strong preference for steel/stainless followers. Function has been perfect with many different pistols, and I have a few friends who are becoming ACT-MAG converts. Still, if you have a McCormick or any other brand of magazine thats working well, no NEED to make a change. I made the change just because I like the ACT-MAGS, not because there was anything wrong with my McCormick/Shooting Stars.
