I am the military advisor of the Illinois State University ROTC small-bore rifle team. Last Saturday we won the opportunity to represent the state of Illinois at Camp Perry for Army ROTC with a team aggregate of 2262. Our individual scores are 572, 566, 563 and 561. Both the 561 and 572 are female shooters who started shooting last fall.

Our problem is that we've burned through most of the Eley Tenex we've been allocated and are going to start buying our own Wolf Match. As the shooters are College students and Not Rich, the coach and I are going to start kicking in for practice ammo.

I'm wondering if anyone on this board would be interested in a tax-deductible contribution of .22 match ammo of any kind and/or cash? If anyone is interested, contact me at:

drew.schumann@us.army.mil

or IM me. Thank you very much.

Okay, you can send funds, but NOT AMMO to:

Illinois State University ROTC Rifle Team
Attn: MAJ Drew L. Schumann
211 N. University
Normal, IL 61761

If you have a bunch of ammo laying around, IM or e-mail me and we'll work something out.

And we thank you for your help. One of our cadets runs through a couple of hundred rounds an evening (once a week) practicing, and 60 rounds a match. Multiply that by 4 to 10 shooters, and that is a LOT of ammo. We screwed up by practicing with the Eley Tenex; we should've started out by practicing with Wolf <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Here's some info might help....

Quote
Have your friend to contact the nearest chapter of the Friends of the NRA and see about getting a grant or grant monies to buy ammo.
The 4H shooting team that uses our range to practice just received $9000.00 from the Texas Friends of the NRA to replace some equipment that is sad shape. They had asked for $16000.00 so I think that we came out alright.

Came from another site, my check's in the mail.

Who do you think you are? The Canadian Olympic shooting team?

(that's a stab at our lack of funding for athletes that shoot)

I feel your pain, man. In reality, we brought this crisis on ourselves. Because we are ROTC, we are authorized a certain amount of rounds, which up til now have been sufficient. But, we got the NRA grant, bought some new rifles, and all of a sudden the team is shooting up ammo and getting good. Not really a bad place to be in, but next year we'll try to get in front of it.

Thanks for the help, guys.

I think I need to. The guy is leaving the team after the summer in order to be a Chicago Firefighter, the red-head is, well, half Irish, and half Italian (and that's all I have to say about that) and the short one is heading off to Iraq after Camp Perry. It is up to "yours truly" to recruit a new bunch to come and learn to shoot. Oh, well. If it were easy, everyone would do it!

I think I just need to lock these four up in the safe as DD suggests, and let them out to practice and for matches.
