Went up to Fairbanks for a couple of days to check out the ice sculptures, and I thought I'd share some of my pictures.

Here's a link to an Anchorage Daily News article about the event, with more pictures.

Here are some carvers in action:

This one was called "Bullseye" and it was one of the few that looked really good in the daylight.

A close up of the horse's face:

Here's a goat. I took this picture during the daylight, but because of the black drop curtain as the background, it shows up pretty well.

Here's a look at the whole goat sculpture in the daylight, and it's hard to see all that's going on.

At night, though, the lights give you a whole new perspective.

Here's one that you couldn't even tell what it was during the daylight, but at night, the jellyfish looked pretty cool.

Incredible works of art to be so short-lived.

Not all of the pictures were being displayed, so I thought I'd break it into a couple of different posts.

This dragon was pretty cool, and if I remember right, it won first place for the multi-block, realistic category.

But, I was disappointed that they didn't do a better job of lighting it up at night. Some colored lights could have really helped it pop.

Here was one of my favorites in the daylight.

At night it was spectacular!

The lion fish won fourth place in the single-block, realistic category:

There was plenty for the kids to do, as well:

Very cool Dan!
We have talked about a short trip in winter to see that and some of the other winter sights along the way.

It is really worth the trip. I went up a couple years back and to go both day and night is like seeing 2 different shows. Absolutely fantastic. Thanks for sharing!

I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.
