338 Rum, 200 GR. Ballistic Silvertips,95 gr. IMR 7828 +/_ 3180 fps, 3.653 OAL

210 GR. Barnes TSX,92.5 gr. RL-22, +/- 3200 fps., 3.585 OAL

225 GR Nosler Partitons, 100 gr. H-1000, +/- 3100 fps. 3.565 OAL

All will shoot MOA out to 300 yds.


As I�ve said before, I�m typically a short range meat hunter. Most of my shots in the past have been 200 yds. or under. I�m in the process of setting up for 700 yds. I�ve got a spot on top of one of the hills at my lease where I have two LD opportunities. One is about 700 yds. The other is to almost infinity



Here is a feeder I�ve set up for whackin� hogs. It�s about 170 yds. I always try for a shot two inches below the ear on a line between the ear and shoulder. DRT. Tracking wounded boars in the thick stuff at dark-thirty can be a hair raising experience



Don�t know if you can see the second clearing at about 7 o�clock from the center of the photo. I�ve ranged it at about 700 yds. I�ve the 338 RUM with the B&C reticle. I�ve recently purchased two of the Leupold 4.5 x 14 x 40 CDS. Plan to send off to Leupold and have dials made for my 7 STW /140 gr. accubonds and my 6.5 WSM/140 gr. accubonds
Won�t shoot deer at that range, but will take the chance on hogs.

It may be Texas but there are some huge azzholes driving on I-10.

You don't have a lot of wussy cartridges in that photo line up. I think you just feel the need for speed.

Them .35 225 BTs are meat on the grill. Good stuff across the board.

The second pic of the clearing,that is WAY OUT THERE! Love that paint job on the .300 H&H Geedubya.

Ruger M 77 with a Leupold 2.5x-8x

I guess I'm kinda anal, but I don't shoot factory. I chrono all loads I shoot for load development. My idea is that it' kinda like driving a car with no speedometer not to chrono your loads.




Typically I will start out with three different load densities using 3 different powders. I load per manual. Nosler per nosler, Sierra per Sierra, Hornady per Hornady etc.
I correlate the velocity vs. accuracy to start with. Sometime I will try more powders. Next I play with the OAL.
I try for sub-inch groups off a rest at 100 yds. Once I choose a load bullet combination, I'll set up zero at 200 yds, then shoot at 100 and three hundred and make note of the POI. Using this, a ballistics calculator, and a rangefinder, I usually know within 1/2" of where the POI on game should be.

Here is a sequence of load development for my Sako Varmint in 260 Rem. and 130 gr. Accubonds.

Each group was shot off the bench at Pearland Shooters club, 100 yds. Sako Varmint, 260 Rem, 130 gr. accubond, 43 gr. H414, different OAL's, 3 x 9 variable power scope at 9X. Groups were fired in order from shortest oal to longest oal. Barrel was fouled with three shots after cleaning and before the 5 groups pictured were fired. Rifle was allowed to cool for fifteen minutes or so between each group.











I'm using the 2.900 oal loading. for my go to hunting load.

Ya got me on that one. I've never owned a 358 Norma Mag. Almost did one time. I was in a pawn shop years ago. It was quite a ways out of town and I would not be back. They had a 358 Norma Mag custom with no scope. Also had a butt ugly Ruger in 300 win mag that some idiot had chopped the barrel to 22" and put a chrome muzzle brake on the blue steel barrel. However it had a Zeiss Diavari C, 3 x 9 scope on top. They only wanted $500 for the whole rig. Didn't take long to make that decision. I bought the Ruger, brought it back to Houston and sold the rifle without the Diavari for $350 IIRC. So, no 358 Norma mag. But $150 for the 3 x 9 Diavari was some consolation. LOL

PS: That 3 x 9 Diavari now rests on top of a sweet Custom Browning Micro Medallion chambered in 7mm-08. Bedded, trigger breaks at 20 oz. Twenty-two inch fluted stainless barrel. The barrel and receiver have been Teflon coated. And yes Mabel, it is a shooter.

Geedubya only other .35 I owned was a .35 Whelen AI. You have 2- 9.3's,I have tossed the idea of a 9.3x62,but just cannot wrap my head around it. My .358 NM and .375 H&H seem to have that covered.

Once again you got me. I've 8mag brass I've necked down for my 7stw and I've considered buying the 8mm mag in the Rem 700 several time, but once again my anal nature kicks in. I prefer the high volume mags w/ 26" barrels when possible. I do luv the 325 WSM though.
My Nosler Custom Sporter in 325 WSM with the Leupold 3.5 x 10 with illuminated Reticle has become my go to rifle for dark thirty
hog thumping.



I load it with 180 gr. Nosler Ballistic tips over 62 gr. W-760 for +/- 2,850 fps.



Add a Elusive Wildlife Technologies XLR 250 kill light and your good to at least 165 yds. Anyway that's the farthest I've killed hogs using it after dark. It lights up both your quarry and scope reticle. The green light don't spook the critters.

No scope, it's actually just a 4' stick. Think Dr. Phil on ill mannered momma bovines, nothing like a little tough love for persuasion.....grin


B&C is fine for those of us dummies who don't want to [bleep] with chit and only shoot 459 yards.

I picked this up used on a whim a couple months ago.



Supposedly smithed by Bo Clerke of Colorado, a blueprinted Winchester CRF action, Broughton Barrel crowned at 25.5", Bansner Stock. It came with about 75 rounds of 140 gr. Hornady SST's over 64 gr. IMR 7828 SSC. IIRC I chrono'd them about +/- 3,180 fps. I've misplaced the targets or I'd post them. Rifle shot these around an inch at 100. However, to my way of thinking, the SST's at that velocity are somewhat more frangible than I like. I usually shoot 130 gr. accubond in all my 6.5's. I had some Sierra Spitzers in 140 gr., but no Accubonds, my bullet of choice in most calibers. I shot two different range sessions with two different powders and the Sierras...........



The third heaviest load density of the 4 using H-1000 was most accurate of the day in this case.



The light load of 64.5 gr. of MagPro was the best of the three load densities in this group.

Then I came down with some kind of crud. I get sick about once every fifteen years or so. This one made up for lost time. Conseqently I got distracted and have not been to the range in about 3 weeks. I did get some 140 gr. Accubonds in today. I'll probably load some up later tonight and go either in the AM or one morning this weekend to see how they do.
