Luckily my rifle is a switch barrel, and I am working on loads for a 6BR so I can shoot it more without worry of loosing its accuracy. I am trying to have the 6.5/284 last as long as possible. Besides the HP guys are the ones who shoot 60, so I don`t feel like I belong with them with a bench gun. The local thing is also true, we usually shoot here at least every other weekend. Practise matches and such. I came across a extremely lucky find on 6mm bullets so I am looking forward to getting the Dasher and 6BR going strong.

I've heard some folks say it was a waste of barrel life to shoot their 6.5-284 @ 600yds... sometimes I wonder if their 600yd range is that much different from ours... I've seriously considered a 6.5-284 (went w/ a fast twist .243, not far behind ballistically) and think there would still be days that I'd be beggin' for more B.C. / speed, barrel life be damned. For right now I'm using a 6mm BR or a .308 and learning to work 'around' the wind <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
I'd still encourage you to shoot w/ the HP shooters all the way. If they (or you) travel to any other Prone matches, the sight of some one w/ a full-blown F-Class rig is probably not all that big a deal anymore, or getting less so.
Hope you like that 6mm BR. Not a whole lot more advantage in the wind than a .308 (driven at sane speeds, not what the BR guys are running) in absolute terms... but I think the low recoil and insane accuracy picks up at least a 1/2 minute wind advantage IMO.
Good luck,
Monte

I think you should try a 6.5/284 it lets me shoot above my experience level. The Sierra 142 is a mean bullet that doesn`t let the wind push it around much. I have shot enough now that I have learned a little about the wind, much more than last July which was my first match. I am hoping experience will allow me to shoot the 6mm`s as well as the 6.5, but that may be wishful thinking. That 6.5 is TOUGH!!
