I have been watching a Mourning Dove for several weeks build a nest, lay eggs and now see the baby birds in the nest. Here is a shot I did of the 2 chicks. I used the Super Macro mode of the Fuji X20 Point and Shoot. I was about 4-6 inches above the nest when I did the shot.
Time may be a wonderful healer, but a really crappy beautician!

Great shot! I'd suggest another face on if they will tolerate your presence.

I went back out and they are gone. I am guessing they are just hiding out of the nest in a bush or something because it looked like they were getting a little cramped in there. There is a cat that cruises the area but it would have had a really hard time getting up there to the nest. I have a Tree Sparrow nest that two eggs hatched today. A Bluebird nest with 5 eggs and a Chickadee nest with 4 eggs that should hatch soon. Lots more opportunities!

My guess would be the doves got nailed.
I came home today and found about 1/2 bushel of Eurasian dove feathers in the driveway along with 2 wings and a breast bone. Likely a Coopers or Goshawk nailed it. I wish I'd been home as the pile would have been close enough to a window to get some good shots.

Down here we get a lot of Sharp-shinned Hawks and Coopers around the houses. I have found enough feathers to make a pillow before.
