Not sure if I'm gonna buy dies or not; gonna piss around with factory ammo for now.....any recommendations on factory ammo for hunting deer and black bear (mainly deer) in western PA that won't break the bank ( I see some upwards of $80 for 20 rounds!)?
Recommendation on lead or jacketed?
What grain?
Thanks for the input.

May depend on scope ocular size and eye relief.
How about just going iron sights and enjoy roughing it?

Probably gonna run a 3-9x40. I'm a believer in taking advantage of technology

Another thought for ammo is the Remington green & white 350gr HP or SP marked "For Any Rifle". It is accurate is every .45-70 I have shot, recoil is easy on the shoulder, and it will kill any black bear or deer in N. America. Oh, you won't need that 3x9 with the .45-70. A straight 4 power scope will do everything you want, plus give you better light gathering ability. Just my $0.02. Welcome to the club! Ed

Thanks Yeah, I'm pumped, can't wait to get out and put a few down range. I said 3-9x40 just because it happens to be the only extra scope I have laying around. I may change in the future but gonna run with it for now..
I'll keep my eyes peeled for the hornaday a and the rems, thanks again.
What scope mount will this Henry take? Model H010 45-70

Whatcha think, low, med or high rings for hammer clearance? Snap on a scout scope and don't worry about it. One could run this unit wearing boxing gloves.
