A Tucson woman used a steak knife to fatally stabbed her partner Friday night.

Rene Lynne Kemp, 40, is facing a charge of first degree murder in the death of the man with whom she was living, Sgt. Chris Widmer, spokesman for the Tucson Police Department, said in a news release.

Police were called to a home in the 2300 block of South Saddleback Avenue at East Golf Links Road at about 10:45 p.m. When they arrived they found a 44-year-old man dead.

Kemp, two children she had with the victim and a male friend of the victim were at the home when police arrived, Widmer said.

Detectives determined that the victim and (Kemp) had a domestic relationship and lived in the home together with their two children, Widmer said. Earlier in the night, Kemp and the victim had an altercation and the victim called a friend to pick him up.

After the friend arrived, the victim began packing some belongings to leave for the night, Widmer said. Thats when Kemp went to the kitchen, armed herself with a steak knife, and stabbed the victim in the chest before he could leave. The victim struck (Kemp) several times after being stabbed, causing her injuries.

Kemp was taken to a local hospital with minor head injuries before police booked her into the Pima County jail.

The victims name has not yet been released.

A woman armed with a handgun was shot and killed by police and a companion was wounded early Saturday morning.

Tucson police officers answered a 911 call at about 1:15 a.m. from a woman who said she had a gun and intended to kill herself, Sgt. Chris Widmer, spokesman for the Tucson Police Department, said.

The woman, who was calling from a home in the 2600 block of East Silver Street near East Grant Road and North Tucson Boulevard, told the dispatcher other people were with her in the house, Widmer said.

Officers John Malovich, Alex Samorano and Jesus Maldonado were the first to arrive at the home and saw a man and a woman standing outside the front door.

When the female observed the officers approaching, she removed a gun she had in a holster on her hip and began to raise the weapon up, Widmer said. She was given several commands to drop the gun, but she refused to comply. All three officers fired their duty weapons at the female.

Both the woman and the man were shot by officers. They were transported to a local hospital where the woman, 24, died of her injuries. Her name has not yet been released.

The 27-year-old man suffered a non-life-threatening wound to his arm, Widmer said.

Both the shooting and the circumstances that led to the officers using their weapons is being investigated, which is standard procedure, Widmer said.

Malovich has been with TPD for 14 years; Samorano has worked for the department for five years; and Maldonado has been an officer for just over a year, Widmer said.

Three "suspicious" fires began Sunday afternoon on the city's southeast side, sending one woman to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The first fire broke out shortly before 3 p.m. in a single-wide mobile home in the 3100 block of East Milton Road, said Battalion Chief John Walka of Rural/Metro Fire Department.

Then five minutes later a brush fire, which endangered structures, began in the 3200 block of East Benson Highway.

The third blaze started 10 minutes later in a mobile home park in the 4200 block of East Benson Highway, which spread to five mobile homes because of high winds, Walka said.

In the final blaze, a woman was treated for smoke inhalation and heat-related symptoms, and taken to a hospital. She was in stable condition, said Walka.

Rural/Metro called Tucson Fire, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Fire and the Air National Guard Fire departments for assistance.

The fires were in an area roughly bounded by East Drexel Road on the north, Benson Highway on the south, Interstate 10 on the East and South Columbus Boulevard on the west.

A total of 66 firefighters battled the three fires, and the first fire was brought under control in 15 minutes, the second fire in 10 minutes, and the third in 30 minutes, said Walka.

Rural/Metro and Pima County Sheriff's Department investigators were working to determine the causes of the fires.

Damage estimates were not known.

A 14-year-old boy died and another teen was hospitalized after they got into a knife fight at a midtown apartment complex Friday night.

Police were called to the complex in the 4400 block of East 29th Street between South Columbus Boulevard and south Swan Road at about 9:45 p.m., Sgt. Chris Widmer, spokesman for the Tucson Police Department, said in a news release.

Officers found Mike Garcia, 14, with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he died about 10 hours later, Widmer said.

Police also found a 15-year-old with multiple stab wounds in an apartment. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Widmer said.

Detectives investigating the incident learned from witnesses that the two boys were involved in a physical altercation with each other in the parking lot of the apartment complex. During the altercation, both boys produced knives and both stabbed each other, Widmer said.

As of Saturday morning, an arrest had not been made and the investigation is ongoing.
