Not sure how interested any would be in this, but this week I bought a new Zastava stainless steel commercial Mauser pattern rifle. These have been available of course for many years in blued versions eg Interarms MkX however this is the first time the stainless steel ones have been available here, as far as I know.









I have 35 rounds down range in two outings and it shoots every bit as good as my blued version in 270 Win. The stainless one is a 30-06 for those interested.

Hey mate, what do they shoot like? I've tossed about the idea of buying one in 9.3x62 due to them being cheap. Also, how heavy is the stainless synthetic? The walnut model weighs a tonne compared to my Montana. Im in Vic by the way. cheers

Second time out was today and with 3 different test loads it shot 5 shot groups of 1.6, 1.7 and 1.7 inches at 150m or 165 yards. That's near moa from a new gun with no work except that I adjusted the trigger which is very easy with instructions available online, needing only a small shifting spanner and a screwdriver.

I thought long and hard about the 9.3 but I just don't need 250g+ slugs for anything I hunt.

At this stage just shooting 180g Interlocks out of it.

Like the blued version, the finish is a little rough, but hardly unpresentable and very very good for the price.

Sorry Aleks I forgot to mention scoped it weighs 3.8kg. About 8.3lb or so.

So, bare rifle sounds like it would be about 7.25 pounds?

About right DD, maybe a fraction less. The mounts are the beefy all steel Warnes and the scope a 3-9x40.

Barrel is 600mm or about 23.7 inches.

So who makes the go fast bits in stainless for one of these? i know sunny hill makes a stainless mauser bottom metal, any others? what about a stainless 3 pos shroud safety? Gentry used to make one but wont anymore, are there other options?
got my 9.3x62 on the way and i'm weighing which way to go for a all weather custom.

I just picked up a blued Zastava Mark X in 270. I replaced the stock with a Bell&Carlson Carbolite stock and bedded the action and 2" of the barrel. The rifle shoots on average 5/8" 100 yd 3 shot groups with H4831SC and 130 gr accubonds The rifle with the carbolite stock weighs in at 8.2 lbs with a FX3 6x42 Leopold mounted. Sporting a 22" barrel I consider this set up to be my perfect mountain rifle.

Got mine, still have to source reloading components but it certainly looks the goods.

A stainless commercial Mauser type in 9.3x62. What a beaut combo.

Do these rifles have smooth working actions? Or do they need
extra polishing like Mark X and Rem 798 and 799s do?

Does the action have the Mauser 98 anti-bind guide milled into the bolt and the third locking lug? Does the safety lock the bolt?

Who carries them as far as a big retailer?

The action just like my blued version was rough and grabby at first. Now with 100 rounds down and it is slicking up. My blued version after two years is slick, if you can call a Mauser wobbling around slick. I never actually did anything to smooth either of them up, just used the rifle.

I never use the safety so to be honest I don't know if it locks the bolt. I will pull it out later and check, and also take some photos of the bolt for you.

The trigger is easily adjustable for creep, weight and overtravel, and not hard to get absolutely perfect.

Yep, safety locks the bolt when engaged.
