I am excited to announce another Michigan Area Get Together!

Denny (Whelenman) has graciously volunteered to host the event at Coopersville Sportsman's Club on Saturday the 18th of January, 2014.

The club has four (4) stations for center fire rifle shooting stretching out to 200 yards, as well as a 5 stand course and pistol bay. The simple but comfortable clubhouse has extra tables where we can show off firearms and enjoy one anothers company and warm up and a kitchen where Denny & I will prepare and serve lunch. Thatll likely consist of burgers/brats and appropriate sides as well as soda (or is it POP? wink )?

Were looking at a max capacity of 20 people including us so there are 18 openings as of right now. There is a waiver that must be signed upon arrival.

Denny is thinking through an appropriate meeting place for breakfast for those whod like to come. We did this in 2011 and had a great time getting to know one another a little bit before arriving at the club.

Ill let Denny say what time we should plan on things getting going. The club has no fee for the use of the place, so were suggesting a $10 donation to them directly and cost of food will be calculated as the time draws nearer.

I really look forward to seeing familiar faces and hope to meet some of you for the first time. Dont hesitate to post up questions on this thread, as it is likely that if youre thinking it so is someone else.

Thanks all,

efw

I believe the range is open a 9:00 AM. We'll have to see where the majority of the people come from and base the breakfast restaurant from there.

I'm seriously considering going. The last gathering was a lot of fun, but I just don't know if I want to do another 8 hour+ round trip in winter conditions like last time.

I plan on being there.

Denny---Do they have a flat grill available there?
I make a pretty mean bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich at deer camp. A sandwich and coffee and we could be shootin.
Three hot plates might do it, and I could do(most of)the cooking.

Course breakfast at a restaurant would be good too.
They open for breakfast at that golf course east on 46?

In regards to breakfast that morning, I'm pretty partial to having it at a decent restaurant. Let's make it easy on ourselves, and not make a bunch of eatra work.

Dang it! One of my workers is going on a cruise right then. I might not be able to get time off. Is this a Friday-Sunday thing or what? I still might be able to come.

DAMN.
I just checked schedules and won't be able to do this.
I will be selling knives at the W. Mi. Edge Show that day. Will also be at the Hunting Time Expo the next weekend.
So there is another opening.
Sorry

Just off 131 south side (near 54th st) of G.R.
I could possibly show up a little late for it.
Don't really think I would try if the gathering is farther that Coopersville from the show, but might. I really hate to miss this get together.

I will plan on making the breakfast part and then go to the knife show a little late. Hopefully some buyers will hold off spending all their money till I get there.
I think this is a really neat thing to do.

Okay people!!!!! It time to get serious about this. How many of you are actually coming. I sent to Eric (efw) this morning.
. Like I said, it is small. We have short pistol range, a 50 to 200 yard rifle range, and a sporting clays range. ( I don't know how to run that, but if someone does, we can use it. If some wanted to use they would have to bring the clays. There is just 4 benches on the rifle range, but most of the guys were just talking anyway. The clubhouse is just 50 yards away from the rifle range, and and is HEATED, with tables to display your guns. The is dish TV also.
I am bringing My Knight KP1, Ruger 77 in 35 Whelen ( that is a surprise), Rem 700 in 350 rem, Model 70 in 264, and maybe my wife's Ruger 77 compact in 243.

Here is a link to the club. http://cschome.org/

SW LP near GR.

Really excited for this. Even if the weather is poor we'll have the clubhouse all to ourselves and good food!

I hope y'all have a great time. Unfortunately I am committed to a MLK day hockey tournament. It's a great time meeting fire members.

I am from Shelby Township and would love to go if I could. Problem is that I am in Texas now still serving for Uncle Sam. I know a few lakes in that area that can be killer for ice fishing.

Eric, pretty sure I've got Momma OK on the idea. I'm excited and so is Caleb.

I don't plan to bring much to shoot just so I can pay lots of attention to his well being. (Momma is more than a little worried about her baby boy attending a shooting event)

What are the costs again?

Denny and I are planning to have burgers & brats for the grill, potato chips, sides (baked beans, cole slaw, etc) and soda. If anyone would like to bring game to grill we can make an event of that, too.

We're planning to meet for breakfast at New Beginnings in Coopersville @ 8 am and whenever we get done there we'll make our way to the club. Address for breakfast is 25 - 68th ave Coopersville, MI 49404; club info is all over the thread on the main campfire board.

If you're interested in sporting clays bring your own pigeons.

Cost is $5/each which will go to cover food w/ anything extra going to the club.

Hey Scott

I can bring my Wife's 243 Ruger compact, for Caleb to shoot. It's about a 1/2 shorter than my 10-22.

I am going to bring my 6mm-250, .223, and 257 AI. I'll bring Samuel's switch barrel 22/410 also... Caleb might enjoy that. I think Samuel may be interested in sporting clays.

I don't know, the targets are all in because of hunting season. They put them out in the Spring.

Things are progressing well so far and barring any problems I think I might be able to make the breakfast, I may need help getting in an out of the car but I think a couple of you big bruisers could help me with that.

Here's to progress!

I'll be bringing my Ruger compact in .223 for him. He's fired a few rounds through it and likes it, but made a comment on recoil, which surprised me. He's only just learning to shoot, so his form is poor and I think that's why the slight kick bothered him. He's learned that he needs to hold it correctly to keep it from free recoiling into him, but I'm not sure he's up to shooting a .243, but I appreciate the offer, Denny.

I'll also bring my Henry youth model 22, which he shoots pretty well. Probably throw his Red Ryder in the truck, too. grin

It is with great regret that I have to call this off. I have been battling a respiratory infection for weeks, it's noe turned into pneumonia. I missed almost all of last week's work, and struggled through this week till yesterday. I wound up in the Emergency Room yasterday, and was released to home late last night.
Missing this get-together really saddens me, but I'm nearly bedridden for now.

Make some noise and throw a bunch of BS around for me guys.

Can I get some clarification on this? I googled it and got 3 locations in Grand Rapids. Anybody have an address for the restaurant we're meeting at?

Just landed back in Carson for the eve after stopping for dinner in Greenville. Got to spend the whole day with my son and a really good group of guys talking about guns, hunting and campfire type stuff. Basically, the most enjoyable day I've had in recent memory!

It was great seeing some familiar faces and meeting a few new folks, too. Caleb (my son) had a good time and definitely enjoyed Samuel's company.

Thanks again to Eric and Denny for their time and efforts in setting this up. I appreciate it.

Looking forward to next time.

What a fun day! I enjoyed seeing/meeting everybody.
We should really try to do this again sometime this year.
We all have too much fun not to get together more often.
In fact, we had so much fun, nobody took any pictures.
I would have liked getting Bruce's facial expression when he shot my 416 Wby without the brake, priceless! smile

A big thank you to Eric and Denny for hosting such a great event.

I didn't see any cameras yesterday, so I'm betting that these 2 pics I took with my phone are the only ones of the event.

I didn't get everybody, but here's a couple pics of the firing line.

From near to far-
My son, Caleb with his trusty 200 shot, range model air rifle. (No compass on this one). Then there's efw, whelenman, Joel/AK and 405wcf at the bench at the far end. Barely noticeable is Clints'folly standing behind efw and whelenman.

The second pic is the same as the first except that clints'folly is now visible standing at the firing line.

Thanks again to Eric and Denny for their efforts. Looking forward tk next time. smile

It was fun. I finally got to talk with everyone, ( sort of)

Was the club okay with everyone?

Thanks for a great day, I really enjoyed it! Special thanks to Denny and Eric for making this happen (they are also good cooks).

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Paul, Mark, and Grasshopper.

I'm glad you guys had a good time! It doesn't surprise me a bit. Nearly every one of the 100+ people I've met through a few forums have been great folks.
I may be hosting a shoot in early August here in Grayling. Stay tuned for details this Spring.
