Ram has announce pricing for their new V6 turbo diesel. Looks like $2850 over the hemi. See: http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2013/06/28/chrysler-ram-diesel-price-power/2471869/

Paying less than $3000 for a diesel up grade is well worth the money.

Wow! I could have 2 and 1/2 dodge 1/2 ton diesel pickups instead of what it cost me to build my house. Awesome. mtmuley

I'm thinking I might end up owning one this Fall..... That's about 4,000 more than the base v-6, about what I expected.

This diesel engine is already available in the Jeep Grand Cherokee so I went ahead and built a vehicle on the Jeep.com web site to get an idea of the pricing. First off, the diesel engine is only available in higher trim levels of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, starting at the Limited model. So adding the diesel engine to the Limited model results in a $4500 up-charge, but you're also required to add the eight speed auto transmission if you select the diesel engine, for a total price increase of $7500.

I don't know what the price increase will be for this engine in the 1/2 ton Ram, but I believe estimate of it only adding $3000 to $4000 to the cost of the vehicle might prove optimistic.

I should also note that the VM Motor diesel engine that Mopar is using is built by an Italian joint venture between Fiat and General Motors.

VM motori also built the Jeep Liberty diesel.

The Ram website shows the "ecodiesel" (I hope God forgives them for that name....) available in all trim lines.

The 8 speed auto already is the de-facto standard in the 1/2 ton trucks, so that's not an issue.

The big question mark is what incentives will be available: right now you can get as much as $3,000 off a hemi, so that would make the upcharge more like $7,500.

I cant wait to test drive one. the resale on diesel alone is worth it. Its about time they put in a mid size diesel in in truck. I hope more companies follow this trend. modern Turbo Diesel is the only way to go in any truck/SUV. stupid americans.
I own an 06 ram 2500 5.9 cummins and its a beast. but the harsh ride gets old. I think for weekend warriors or anyone not needing HD truck all the time, this is going to be the ticket. I would love to have this new eco diesel as a family/weekend truck.
I'll be test driving for sure.

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

I put 110,000 miles on my 06 5.9L, and I agree, it's a big, heavy truck. Awesome for towing, but not a great daily driver.

The biggest negative I saw for the 3/4 ton with the Cummins was the weight and size during hunting trips in both mud and snow. Just too darn heavy and long. Too much sinking.

Diesel is great for put-putting around the back country without having to run into town for fuel every day or so. A light, short truck to do it in is even better.

I have one of the 2006 jeep libertys with the 2.8L VM Motori engine. I also have a 1998 dodge 2500 with the 5.9 Cummins. While I like the jeep, be aware that the VM Motori is no Cummins. I don't know about the V-6 version, but there are some problems with the 2.8 that you have to be aware of and guard against. It's a toy to me for use as a hunting vehicle and I enjoy the heck out of it, but I wouldn't use it as my daily driver. It's not the bulletproof engine the Cummins is.

I remember there being a lot of problems with that Liberty diesel when they first started selling them, but don't remember any details. Mind giving us an inside scoop?
