I have an aged but in mint condition as in unused Pecar of Berlin 4 x 81 scope. Its tube diameter is slightly over one inch being 1.023. I believe that Weaver at one stage made rings for this tube diameter but I was wondering where I could get a new set of dovetail mounts to fit this scope to a vintage european .22 rifle Does anybody know much about this scope model and if it was designed for centrefire or rimfire rifle application. Any info would be apprecriated

I am not familiar with all the variations of Pecar scopes, because the only ones I have seen have been on German, Israeli or British sniper rifles. The Brits used a 4x on their heavy barrel .303 and 7.62x51 NATO sniper rifles.

You might send an email to a German scope distributor like SWFA.

You have a 26mm scope tube. They were more common before
the move to 30mm tubes. I found these two sites with different solutions to your problem.

I believe you need a set of 26mm rings. I have learned outside of Germany, the 26mm rings tend to be exotic. They are actually a booger to find in Germany now.

I have a Pecar 4X81 scope also. At a suggestion by Mule Deer, I use Burris Signature rings with inserts to handle the 26 mm. tube. They work. Some ancient Weaver style rings supposed to be 1" also fit; but normal Weaver's, Talley's, Leupold do not.

Mine came on a rifle with 1" old Leupold Detacho rings and the tube was dented by the rings.

The scope is excellent optically in spite of it's age and the dents in the tube. I have it mounted on an equally old 270 Husqvarna with a LR FN Mauser 98 action.

WOW! just noticed how old this thread is shocked.

Apparently the 4X81 Pecar scope was made to accommodate changing the reticle by changing the elevation/windage module. I still wonder what the 81 in the nomenclature means!

The tube is 26mm and rings are available from Recknagel. The 81 refers to the twilight factor. An obscure calculation no longer popular in selling scopes. It is an excellent centrefire scope and will handle most calibres.

Kahles Austria can service them as Pecar are now out of business.
