There are several makes of the Colt pump rifle, Lighting, on the market. I am interested in buying one. I cannot find anyone who has used one nor who knows about them, quality, reliability etc. Does any one have experience with them? I am not going to use it for CASS events but rather just plinking or small game hunting. I am considering either a 45 Colt or a 44-40WCF. Thanks.

"Gun Tests" magazine tested these last month. The Taurus got the "Thumbs-Up" as the only one to buy and has a retail price about $800 less than the others!

I'm a 45 Colt guy but, I'm afraid I'd go with the 44-40. In a smokeless load, your not giving anything up to the Colt and in a blackpowder load, I think you would see performance above and beyond the smokeless loads due to pressure concerns. The 44-40 works much better with black due to the tapered case. That rifle wont get nearly as dirty!
