Funny you mention that. Was out yesterday on patrol, sorting out movement and populations here and there. In the sun for a change. Phoucin' hot it were. So hot I think shooting them in the face is merciful.
Will test that directly.

Good morning BTE. Should post this on handguns, but I find myself here more that not. Also, the faithful members of the BTE have shown great love and appreciation for my targets. I've been wanting to try out some hardcast heavies in my .357s, and just the other day picked some up off the classifieds here. They are Cast Performance, 180 grain gas checked LBT style mutherphukers. I'm kinda liking them. I shot 2 sample loads side by side with my pet load of 180gr Rem SJHP's for comparison. I'm no pistolero, so there were a flier or 2. The pet load is consistanty very very tight in both weapons. Looks like I'll be going with the 13.5 grain load. I've no idea on speed. The recoil in the Marlin is negligible as always, and there was a noticeable difference in snappiness betwixt the 13 and 13.5 loads in the 586, but not bad, not bad at all. It was a full cylinder (6) of each load with the 586 (4") and 4 shots each with the Marlin (3 with the pet load). It wasn't really a great test with the rifle, as the batteries are dying in the red-dot, so I shot, turned off. Work the lever, turn on shoot. Repeat.

Bottom pic is kinda hard to make out. But 3 of the 13.5 load went sub inch, 3 of the 13 grain load went 1.5", and pet load went 1.75". Pet load is typically sub inch too. But I am down to my last 50 rounds of them so from here out they go into flesh.
Next on the docket is penetration of the cast into jugs.

BGG, I use those Cast Performance 180gr hard cast also, great bullet. They make a 250gr for the 41mag, its a thumper.

I've a load for their 275s in my 629, but they won't feed in the .44 Marlin.

I've been looking for one of the older Marlins in 41mag, pre safety with tapered octagon barrel. Hard to find and seems most that have them think they are made of gold!

Never seen one with the barrel you describe. I always thought the .41s were cool because they had the pistol grip. Never shot one though to see if I preferred it or not. I'd thoughts toward a buttstock and lever from one for the .44 but have never gotten around to it.

I'm hoping that carpet was the backstop and not the floor. Them are the remains of another 30 pak....you never know.
BGG P.S. the "black" is hard to see and you missed the dot. Love you.
