This is a really simple fix that the good old boys use. It might not be taechnicool or fanch-schmancy enough for somne but we have found that if you wrap a roll of ducktape around the led-sled, rifle, and scope it works just fine.
That's an elegant solution! I was just gonna suggest Weaver rings, cinched down real tight.
You can roll a turd in peanuts, dip it in chocolate, and it still ain't no damn Baby Ruth.

Lead sleds are notorius for tearing things up. That said, I'd still go 8-40 and move to a stronger mounting system.
That cart in a 7.2lb rig can't be much fun.

I'd bet money the scope partially broke off going back and when it smacked PAK snapped off the other way. 7 pound 338 LP? Are you kidding me? You couldn't pay me to shoot it, but I'd probably buy a ticket to watch someone else try to shoot it.

Could be. I just got slammed by some porn that is too raunchy for hell as I changed to page two. Had to back out of campfire to start over.

This situation is like an advertisement for integral scope bases such as Sako or Ruger.
I wouldn't use a lead sled anymore! The only time I used one was at a hunting camp to check my scope after arrival. It grouped a little bit off to the right, and I felt good about my scope setting because I had driven to camp without any airport personnel handling it. So, I shot a group with just my elbows on the bench and my shoulder absorbing the recoil and it was right in there where it should be.
When you re-attach your bases with your new oversize screws,I suggest a dab of epoxy bedding between the receiver and bases to give a uniform bearing pressure. Good luck with the featherweight canon.

An ultra feather weight rifle chambered in a known shoulder killer, heavy scope, and a lead sled. Four things that add up to something getting broken. Maybe next time you can break your nose with your thumb instead.
Welcome to the fire, and good luck with that gun.
