I need to pick up the pace a little. focus a little more on core strength. I agree with Tracks. It's a losing battle from here on out...

I try to keep active enough all year, with hiking, yard work and the like.
Both in Miami, and in Gainesville, I get in at least a mile and a half walk each day. More when I can.
That more than enough gets me ready for the type of hunting I do here. Slow still hunting in swamps and along feeder/drain creeks.

Exactamundo......just did a mile hike up a mountain the other day and just set a new speed record.......for slow....

I forgot the muscles hurt going up and the joints hurt coming down, not to mention frequent stops to look around for a paramedic....

I figure I came close to setting a new 'world record', for the 20 yd dash, when those yellow-jackets got me yesterday...

anybody that can run that fast, doesnt need to 'get in shape'!

LOL!

I hate to let my advancing age be an excuse for being unfit. A sensible exercise program like Body-for-Life takes up only 20-40 minutes a day (intense minutes, mind you!)and can produce very good conditioning results.

I've been preparing to rewrite my family medicine Board exams this fall and I am amazed to find how much more solid science has been done on the benefits of regular exercise for general health. Diabetes, high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, and a host of other chronic disease states are significantly impacted by regular exercise. Muscle mass loss as we age is a HUGE problem that affects all of these disease states; restoring muscle mass through weight training is something that can be done at ANY age.

I picked up my pre-hunting exercise program on August 1. I've been using the Body-for-Life program for about 10 years now, off & on. It's been hard to maintain since I moved to TX, as our little town's only "gym" is the hospital fitness center, and it's pretty bad. Last week I bought a set of Bowflex adjustable dumbbells and a bench, though, and I've started lifting again. Got the stationary bike for aerobic workout for now, and in a month or so I'll start hiking some hills.

I've dropped 15lb this summer. My wife has acquired high blood sugar (not diabetes yet, thank goodness) and she's seriously working on losing weight so I've been working out with her along with additional running. Also, I'm conditioning my pack llamas so a couple times a week I do some steep hill climbing with them.

I'll be 65 next week so things happen FAR slower than when I was 40. By hunting season, my 2 partners, both older than me, will hate me.

blush, I was talking to a Bud on the phone one day on the back porch while drinking coffee, had my old 300 perched up on a bi-pod, a little 7pt meat buck stepped out to graze on some peas up in the upper field, I said hang on Bro, BOOOMMMMM, gotta hangup Buddy, gotta go dress a deer. grin

He allowed, I sucked, he lives in TX and has to drive about 4 hours to even see a deer. LOL
