I bought a 16 ft one last year and sold it to buy one of the new ones. Bought a 15 ft Saturn Kaboat $850 at Costco N Anchorage for 2 weeks Brian Richardson form AK Raft Connection worked with Costco & Saturn to bring them up to AK. Impressive boat 15 MPH upstream speed on the Kenai with a 9.8 HP OB and 500 # load. look at the videos. 10 PSI drop stiched floor makes perform like a rigid hull.

I used it on the Kenai with no issues am planning on using on Big Sue for Bear hunting. Very stable and fast. Want to build a lift with little set back for shallow water.

Thats pretty sweet and at a reasonable price to boot. I looked on the website and they have a heavy duty model that comes in lighter in weight and another 100 lb capacity.

I like the looks of those.

As an aside, anybody have a 9.9-15hp 2 Stroke OB I can rent/buy for 2 weeks in Sept of 2014? (Anch or FBks)

I saw those last week in Costco, and I was wondering about the quality.

I continue to be impressed with them that is why I bought the second one. No loss of air, performance better than expected. Brian has had no returns or warranty issues but time will tell.

Sea Marita had a non current New 9.8 HP 4 stroke Tohatsu for $1650 at the Sp Show they usually run 2 K. New Boat and motor for $2500.

BTW, what's the flow of the Kenai, compared to the Yukon?

Thinking Kenai is around 6 MPH

Googled this (The Yukon River flows at an average speed of 5 to 8 miles per hour)

Ya - From personal experience I think the Kenai is just a bit faster than the Yukon - but they are close.

Saw those Cosco boats a couple days ago. They look good. Especially the long slim ones. Not much for cargo space, but there is an option....

The wife keeps talking about floating one of the rivers up here before we leave for back on the Kenai.

I'm thinking a couple of those long skinnies are preferable to the 14 foot folding aluminum bottom Achilles I have, with its short oars. Me and the dog and my personal gear in one- here and the camping gear in the other. If a bear eats one, we still have an option.

smile smile Boat rich, dollar poor! I just bought a 40 hp jet unit for the Sneer - at her insistence - for our cabin-running. Guess she didn't like breaking down 5 miles short on a 700 mile trip....

Brian from Alaska Raft Connection worked with Costco to bring up 30, 15 ft Saturn Kaboats, talked to Brian today and they are all sold.

I picked up the 13 ft fishing Kayak also today, kinda of a go to shore explore boat when we are out in Prince William Sound.

Brian Richardson found 7 more 15' Kaboats in the lower 48 buyer will have to pay to have them shipped up around $200 xtra for shipping 907-250-2271.

I have no affiliation with Brian or Saturn just think they are a good product reasonably priced and very practical.

Didn't figure they would last long, but I didn't even get to go drool over them at Costco. Went there last week, and they were all gone. Oh well, whatever extra money I get these days goes to UAA grad school for the wife. One more year of it, and she can get a job and start paying me back! smile

I would be very concerned about the durability and repairability. Saturn is a China made PVC product and most PVC rafts are considered a 5 year boat. You can but all PVC boats for less than Hypalon raft but Hypalon is a 20 year boat and easy to repair. Repairing PVC is not hard but once again it is the durability question that causes me to pause.

I like AIRE products which are also PVC but they are PVC bladders with a super tough cover that protects the bladder. I like how stiff you can make PVC rafts. Hypalon rafts are inferior in that category for sure. The Gary King product is a good option but not as cheap as Saturn or Star boats.

I guess it is a question of how long do you want to own that inflatable and how fast do you expect to replace it. Kind of like buying a Kia vs. a BMW.

Have you ever seen one in person or used one? They are made in the same Korean factory as the Gary King boat. I have owned 3 now with no issues, and quite impressed with the boat for the money.

Not the ones being sold in Costco. I have see a number of them on the rivers and have assisted a few folks in repairs. My opinion only reflects my experience with PVC boats. I own 12 Hypalon boats and 3 PVC but not the Saturn.
