Hey guys,
Was thinking of buying a Lee factory crimp die for my .458WM and I read the statement from Lee saying that it can crimp a bullet in place even if the bullet doesn't have a cannelure? I didn't and don't think this is possible - especially on a kicker like the .458?
What do you guys think?
Cheers,
Russ.
You'll probably never NEED a gun. In fact I hope you never do. BUT IF you do, you will probably need it worse than anything you've ever needed before in your life...

Yes it works fine. You can adjust the tool to crimp light to full. It will crimp any bullet made of soft metal.

I've cranked on my die pretty hard and it didn't really set the case mouth into a jacket. I'm talking bullets like ballistic tips where neck tension was weak. Has anyone REALLY made this happen...I was a little Leary to put more pressure on the handle as lee collect sleeves are none too tough. So..those of you out there have you really done this on jacketed bullets?

I've put this up before, but here is a picture from where I was playing around with extending the OAL in a .44 Mag Ruger SRH. Without getting too deeply into that project, that is the same bullet in both loads, and I used the FCD on both.

Using the LEE crimp die, YES!!!! it will crimp any soft metal bullet. You do need a real press.

Regular cup and cores no problem and yes in my .308 125 ballistic tips there was an increase in accuracy and a little boost in velocity. I would avoid a partition type where the case mouth is over the solid section of the bullet. Otherwise, go for it.

I have had the opposite experience. I needed to crimp 40 cal bullets for my 38-40 and the LFC would not even dent the jacket. I talked to the Lee Customer Service and they said the die was faulty so they sent me a new one. Same thing.
I could push the bullets back into the casee with my finger.
