I am thinking about putting a Kampfeld campfire size bolt knob on a remington 700 bolt handle. I know these are really popular on here and they look great.
However, I would like to hear some opinions and experiences about this not being a good idea. In theory putting stress and weakness right where you continually cycle the bolt makes sense that this could eventually lead to a problem.
Can anyone here speak to this good or bad?
Thanks all.

Well, for what its worth I've probably had Karl do at least a dozen bolts for me, all with the smooth Campfire knob. I'm guessing the 1st one he did maybe 5 years ago and so far I've never had any issues with any he did. I can say I've saved smashing my knuckle on the scope when running the bolt a few times since the knob gives a little more clearance than a factory one.

NOOOOOOOOOOO issues at all...do it!!!
I don't always venture out into the sub-freezing darkness, but when I do, it is deer hunting season, and I carry a Remington. Stay hungry my friends.

Kamfeld spiral fluted bolt knob is PERFECT, adds a great gripping surface.

Assuming the rifle will be used in a less than rough manner then they are functional and beautiful. However in a bad situation they possibly could add to risk of damage. I have one of his rifles that he lightened for me with his large oval cut out on the bolt handle rather than a few well place holes. As my bad luck would have it in the Ruby Wilderness Area in NV on my buddy's dang horse that liked to jump rather than wade/step across the tiny streams we passed, even with my best efforts at holding him back, one such event got me. On a creek with a tight clearance at the far side he jumped and the scabbard banged the rock wall. I was worried about the Leupy (it was fine, I love the 6x42s) but when I pulled the rifle one of the two bolt handle sections had snapped and twisted up. To the credit of the Rem 700 SS bolt the handle was still attached by one arm. Gloves let me gingerly load and unload the rifle for the hunt and Karl put a three hole handle on there for me.

I just sent Kampfeld a package 20 minutes ago. I couldn't quite pull the trigger on the Campfire knob. I love the looks of them but don't know if I would really like it. I was also concerned about exerting extra force on the skeletonized handle. Personally I don't like to carry rifles with crap sticking out off the side. Turrets on top are great but I hate a M1 sticking out on a carry gun. That's why I love my pos, in accurate, forearm rattling, loud safety clicking 760
One of these days I would like to hit one of the gatherings and maybe one of you fine fellows could change my mind on them.

My hands are big, so having a large knob on the bolt keeps my hand away from dragging on my scope. Was just shooting a Ruger without a knob the other day and forgot how much it sucked.

My hands are big and I have never had a factory, pre and/or post war, bolt knob ever being an issue?

If your hands are cold or you are wearing gloves the larger bolt knob is handy, otherwise it is just "look-at-me", which is enough reason to have one anyway.
These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

On today's scopes with the large eyepiece, coupled with a full throw bolt like a ruger, your hand will drag if you have large hands. Not an issue on my tikka with the short bolt throw. otherwise it is just "look-at-me" I shoot alone, and don't go to public ranges. There is nobody to look at me.
