I've seen them while boating on the Missouri River, but have always heard/thought that the vibration of the motor caused them to jump out of the water. Well, we learned yesterday that a slow moving paddled canoe will cause them to go airborne too. My Son and I went on a BSA sponsored canoe trip on the lower Platte yesterday, in at Fremont and out at Ashland, and between the seventeen canoes had over fifty of these SOBs land in the boats. We had three in our boat that probably ran from three to eight pounds, with the biggest that I saw running around fifteen pounds. 'Saw one of the kids get hit and dump their canoe because of fish strike. Much more interesting to watch than to have to wrestle out of a tippy canoe.

When the SHTF, we will eat those things till they are all gone. We should be cutting them things up and sending them off for the prisoners to eat.

They don't taste bad at all. Try smoking'em. Good flesh. Bones easy to find and pull out.

Now they are a nuisance and noone wants them. We could sell tons of them to China, Singapore, and all over for a darn good price. Whay don't we harvest them???????? Some brainless law the feds made???

Are they harder to keep lit compared to, say whitefish? ( but you knew somebody had to say it)

When I lived in Idaho we used to smoke mountain whitefish a lot--easy if you light the tail and inhale thru the mouth! (Not that I EVER inhaled....).

We have a guy here that is netting millions of pounds of them and grinding them up and making it into fertilizer. He became a millionaire in less than a few years.
