Oooh.. that's not gonna buff out. I don't see what was happening before, but can't imagine how that idiot managed to do it. If he'd been a civilian, would something like this bring charges? Does Reckless Driving apply to boats? [video:youtube] http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=j_eH229fMfM[/video]

Been on the boating forums for a few days now. There's another longer video on liveleak. The police boat never did return, they stopped about 200 yards away and the officer driving called someone on his cell phone.

It will turn out the sunk boat was "illegally docked" or some other form of BS and all fall back on the owner..

Drunk driving does. Grand Lake down here in our area, was the first lake to issue drunk driving citations on the lake if I'm not mistaken. Lakes are fun to party on and it's all good until somebody gets hurt or worse.

Roy, thanks for the picture. Looks like props definitely left some marks - still trying to figure out why the guy thought powered full up the entire way through and as he pulled away was a good idea.

It will turn out the sunk boat was "illegally docked" or some other form of BS and all fall back on the owner.. That's the Watergate and the Kennedy Center in the background. There are no docks there on the south side of the river, just Theodore Roosevelt Island so the "docked" argument certainly holds no water.

Yup...there's only a launch ramp at Gravelly Point and the docks on the other side of that off the river. I would think you would have to go all the way to Georgetown or Maine Avenue to see any docks at all. Now they've even become very nasty about folks dropping the hook on the river.
I don't boat the Potomac anymore. I'd rather go to Edgewater and take the South River to Thomas Point for a day.
I just watched the video again and that looks like Georgetown at Sequoia and Washington Harbour

In the news story I saw, the report said that the police boat had been "scrambled" for a "person in the water" emergency. I surmise that he left his dock very nearby and immediately went to full throttle. And then looked where he was going...

Had the operator been a bit more skilled, he could have carved up 2 boats in 1 pass.
