After having my egg for 6 years I finally put a Rutland gasket on it. Hopefully I never have to mess with it again. It looks like the real deal. Not sure why people are concerned about them and not being safe for food use. Pretty sure I'm not going to drag my food over my gasket.

If they're not food safe I'm screwed! I have them on all four of mine. Did you use the Permatex Ultra Copper to adhere them? Mike

Wow, 6 years.. A lot of folks swear you don't need one at all but I think you do, especially for snuffing coal. It should be the last gasket you buy. I did use the ultra copper too.

I did use the ultra copper. After reading a few forums I figured that was the ticket. Hopefully I am done now. This is my 4th gasket. I torched the first one a couple weeks after I bought my egg. Damn pizzas! The other two lasted quite awhile but I was pretty picky about even pressure with the lid all the way around.

I used the ultra copper and Rutland gasket on my Vision Grill. I am very satisfied with the results.

I have a couple of cookers with no gasket at all and they run just fine. In fact the Primo Oval gasket went the first week and it's still my best cooker.
I have the Rutland on a couple and they are a nice-to-have. As for safety it's the same gasket that's on your oven door.

I'm sure this has been asked or discussed in the past, but where is the best place for me to purchase one of these gasket kits along with the adhesive? I'd like to maybe have one on standby for my XL so that when the time comes I won't be down for long.

I picked up the gasket and Permatex at my local Ace hardware.

I got the gasket at a locally owned hardware store. It had its own adhesive but it was crap. I got the Ultra Copper at O'Reilly's.
